So, the NHL governors meeting was held this week and offsides was suspected to be a hot topic. No major rule changes are likely to happen, but I read an article with many of the above suggestions from different hockey writers.

Curious if the NHL board were deciding rule changes to the game, which would we adopt?

I want to vote for a shorter regular season but it's not an option and I live in California so my vote is useless anyways.

And add tertiary assists as an official stat. And get rid of the 2nd on ice ref. For starters.

Probably not being discussed, but one change I wouldn't mind seeing is allowing players to use the outside of their hands to play the puck to a teammate.

Can't grab/throw the puck with the inside part of the hand to a teammate, but what harm is there in punching or backhanding the puck to a teammate provided they don't catch it first?

I was actually discussing NHL rules changes with my brothers yesterday afternoon and this one came up. Coincidentally, with 5 seconds left in last nights game, Zetterberg and Boyle tie each other up in the faceoff dot in the Wings offensive zone with the goalie pulled, Zetterberg barely nudges the puck with the outside of his hand and gets called for a penalty (while blood is streaming down his face from a high-stick non-call a few moments prior). Lame penalty. Lame rule. Lame way to end the game.

And that moment summed up this season for the Wings pretty accurately.

Extend 3-on-3 OT to 10 minutes and get rid of the shootout (i.e. bring back ties)

/Still wouldn't help this guy

As a Leafs fan, I completely agree with all of this

Could be worse, in the Middle East Hockey League (MEHL) if play the puck with your hand or close your hand on it - you lose the hand.

Also, sorry @elocomotive

I still advocate getting your player back if you score a shorthanded goal.

And change icing to be from your side of your blue line, not center.

I'd like to get rid of the hybrid icing rule. I've hated it since it went into affect. Go to the international rule where the puck doesn't need to be chased.

If the play is challenged and the ref was found to make a mistake, his eyes are removed.

You have the name wrong though. The league in the Middle East is also called the NHL... National Hammurabi League.

There is one rule change that was recommended:

The GMs did arrive at one slight tweak to the rules to recommend to the competition committee — timeouts will no longer be permitted following an icing call.

I didn't know that pissed anyone off?

Let's see some more votes!

Interesting that there is one clear favorite - modifying the point system, a few "no way" ideas, and the others are very close to 50/50.

Ever since the NHL went to the point for OT loss I have been saying they needed to go to the 3-2-1-0 point system.

Instead of changing the net size, change the padding size on goalies.

I never thought or heard about letting the PP go on after a goal, but I like that one.

IDK about eliminating the challenges for offsides, but they do need to adjust it. Put a time limit on it. EX If the puck was in the offensive zone for 20 seconds or more before the goal was scored, then there can not be a challenge.

Someone said make the OT 10 minutes, I would say yes to this. Because the shootout is not a good idea.
