And here is our annual FA article from Bengals propaganda man, Geoff Hobson. :frusty:

While I'm not interested in paying a bunch of underachievers big dollar in free agency, this is a little ridiculous. We have about 20 roster spots to fill. You can only expect real impact from 3 or 4 draft picks (if you are lucky), leaving about 16 or 17 guys that we need to fill a team. Sure, some of those guys will just be for depth - Special teams, back-up linemen, dbs, linebackers, etc. But we are still short 4-5 key guys at starting positions. And that's being generous!

This was a playoff team last year and it's a team with a somewhat favorable schedule in a division with teams dealing with financial issues and aging rosters. If ever there were a time to make a splash in FA, this would be the year.

But, as I said.... More of the same.

They need to be active in FA this yr more than ever. Next yr they have to spend up to the cap, and if they're ridiculosly under the number it'll give prospective FAs tons of leverage... make some smart choice this yr and next

I'm really starting to believe my bullshit theory that the Bengals are saving money because it's the last year they can.

They couldn't sell out the stadium last season, so they've given up on doing it next season. It's just awful that our talented players have to suffer through this when they could be playing for serious teams.

I tweeted Hobson something along the lines of Mike Brown's plan seems to be to wait til all the good FAs sign, then get guys nobody else wants. His reply was "that is not the plan".

What was he going to say? That his boss is a fucking buzzkill at this time of year? The Hobspin twitter account is closely monitored by the family..... Should any negative comment be made by Geoff, he will be waterboarded.

Frostee Rucker is visiting with other teams as well. By my count, we'll be losing 3 important guys off the D-line alone. Nice.

He was the best player on D last season. Makes sense he's gonna be gone.
