Just heard it on the local sports station on the radio.

Hjalmarsson will be able to play in the game on Saturday however against the Sabres.

Get ready for a great game come this Saturday.

Here is what Miller had to say about all this:

“No matter badly Hjalmarsson feels, it's still an illegal hit, it still put our guy out and it's still suspendable in my mind. It absolutely needs to be punished. I don't care if it's unintentional. That's what we need to get away from in hockey right now, the culture of it where, 'I was trying to make a play, therefore it's not my fault.'

"A hockey hit is to separate a man from the puck, not anticipating the puck getting there, hitting him from behind and driving him into the boards. So you have two things right there: The puck wasn't completely there, it was anticipation of it, there's no separation and it's a hit from behind.

"It's completely something where I don't know if enough was made of it because Jason is walking out with just stitches. What if Jason has a fractured neck? We don't even know if it's going to have an impact with concussion, so I just think no matter how badly Hjalmarsson feels, no matter if it's unintentional, we have to change the culture of it if we're ever going to change the situations we're seeing, where guys are laying on the ice bleeding and missing time with concussions. It's completely an unnecessary play.

"I'm glad he admitted to it and didn't need to do it, but you've got to change the culture sometime, and I hope the league wakes up and sets a precedent for the year."

And if you don't agree with Miller, then you Sir, are a Nazi!

Personally I still think the hit wasn't as bad as people are saying. But that's just my opinion. The way everyone was talking about it I was expecting at least 5 games.

This is one thing that Quenneville said that really got the Sabres pissed off:

"To me you can argue that it was even a penalty. I know that you don't want to see anybody go down and get hurt like that, but (Hjalmarsson) wasn't even looking at the guy. He was playing the puck and just hit him. There was no intent at all on the head."

It was a hit against a Sabre player. Some will say it was worse than the attack on Pearl Harbor, call for the public flogging, castration, and execution of the person who did it and anyone who disagrees. And the suspension will never be enough for such a blatant affront to all that is good and decent in the world, and it is only so light because Gary Bettman, Bono AND Barack Obama have an innate hatred of Buffalo and their crappy ass chicken wings. After all <insert player name here> is on the verge of becoming a superstar and/or is already one of the best players ever to wear skates.

Most everyone else will say, yeah, it was probably unneccessary. And two games is probably right. Sucks for the guy who got hit, he can't catch a break.

Whatever, if it gets us one step closer to that blood vessel finally going "ping" in Ruff's head, I am all for it.

I agree honestly, which goes along with what I said yesterday. I don't think the hit even should have resulted in a penalty much less a suspension.

I know the NHL is trying to get rid of head shots, but I don't see this as a hit to the head either. His head hitting the boards was an unfortunate result, but Hammer did not hit him in the head. Now if the NHL made a rule that stated that any hit that results in a player's head hitting the board is illegal, then I would agree with the suspension. But not as the rule stands now.

I thought it deserved a boarding penalty, but since he drew blood isn't 5 & game automatic?

Suspension - I'm not sure about. The intent wasn't there, but at normal speed it looked bad.

43 I hope you respect my opinion. When Connolly got blasted by Shaefer (sp) a few years ago against Ottawa I said at the time "he deserved it,he had his head down and that's what will happen" I didn't bitch and complain about it but told it like it is.

I think most of the posters hear would agree that guy's like me and IPW tell it like it is. We rip the Sabres when it's justified and so does the broadcast crew. They hammered the Sabres after the Rangers loss.

The fact is
1) He hit him before he even got the puck.
2) He had his back to him and his elbow hit the 9 on his jersey.
3) He was along the boards so it's boarding.

I love great hard hitting and fast hockey as much as the next guy. But he clearly violated THREE rules and I do not see how there can be any dispute over that.

"The guy is not a dirty player", Ruff said that after the game. "He made a mistake and should pay for it".

I would and have said the same thing if it were a Sabres player that did it..

I agree with Miller on this one. Hjalmarsson was anticipating the play and not going for the puck. He made the mistake of trying to go for the big hit and punish Pommers, but he timed it wrong, and should be suspended.

He hit Pommers from behind when the puck wasn't in his possession.

This is why it's so frustration when it comes to a ruling in these cases.

You can ask 100 people and get 100 different opinions back on what they think.

Or you can just ask Colon Campbell and get the wrong opinion every time. :D

That pretty much what Ruff said. No one is going bonkers over this so I don't know what the big deal is. I get the feeling some people think Sabres fans are crying over this. I agree with you.

The guy messed up he obviously made a mistake he got two games and it's over.

The only thing I know is Pommers will be out more than two games.

True, fans watch the game and want their team to win, if something goes bad for their team their heart over takes the brain. I went to a great seminar on stuff like this one time. The speaker talked about a play against his team (he is a football fan) that he would have bet his life was wrong. He said after seeing the play a year or so later he said he was wrong.

Emotions have a lot to do with what we see, logic at times becomes secondary, it's best to take a deep breath and analyze what you see before commenting. It may take a long breath at times, trust me I've been there but you must take the time and look at the situation as an outsider and not a fan for or against the team.

Look at any game thread and you can see a controversial play get many different options (as you said)

My little rant sorry.

All I know is that he got 2 games and I think that's good enough for me.

It does make it interesting to see what the Sabres do when they play again this Saturday. I have a feeling Kaleta is going to try to make him pay early in the game.

He should have just made a sexual gesture @ Pominville. Would have caused a lot less drama and he would get to rest the same amount games.

For what it's worth, All three guys on Versus just said it was a dirty hit.

Not trying to keep this going but it unusual for them all to agree.
