'Hitsville: The Making of Motown'

I dropped this here because it's more of a music thing. I caught it last night on Showtime. Motown has been done to death over the years, but never like this. Berry Gordy finally opened the archives for this one. Maybe he figured he's pushing 90 and he'd better do it now.

There is all sorts of archival footage and tape of the actual making of some of their classics, including recordings of their "quality control" meetings where they assessed the prospects for songs to decide what to release. One in particular was My Girl, which most in the room were not at all impressed with. Only 3 of them thought it was a hit, but one was Gordy and the rest is history.

Highly recommended for anyone interested in that music and time in music history.

So distinct, nostalgic, and as american as rock & roll, jazz, baseball & apple pie.
