What are the odds the Vikes don't go offensive line until the third round?

What are the odds the Vikes don't go offensive line until the third round?

Due to the presence of Reaves I say close to zero. Even at pick number 50 in round 2 the good ones may all be gone which means if they don't take one at 18 and don't move down in the first round and take one, they might have to move up in round 2. Spielman would much rather move down in this draft because he backed up what I have been saying that this may be the deepest draft we have seen in years.

I'm beginning to believe that unless Williams, Diller or Taylor are there at 18 (which I give less than fifty/fifty chance) the Vikings will trade down. How far depends on what the different packages offer. As long as Ford, Bradbury, Lindstrom or the Kansas State kid are there they will be happy with a move to trade down. If there is a QB available at 18 a team really wants it could be a really good package. That's why I'm hoping Arizona doesn't take Murray.

In my way of thinking the Vikings (for salary cap reasons) need to use as many day one and day two picks they can on offense in order to balance future high dollar contracts away from Defense. Due to Holt screwing up they probably won't trade Wayne's even if they know they won't have the cap room on the defensive side of the ball to pay him next year. Of course he's worth a 3rd round compensatory pick if that happens. This means they most likely wouldn't take anything lower than a 2019 or 2020 second rounder. I see Indy as the most promising trade partner for Waynes and New England potentially the most promising partner to trade down in one with if there is a QB at 18 they covet.

Can you imagine if they traded with Indy and New England, dropped to number 32 but picked up a couple more second round picks plus another 4th .. That would give us 7 quality picks though the first 4 rounds!

32 hours and counting!

I heard a news report that if Zimmer fails to get the Vikings into the playoffs they will strongly consider hiring Mike McCarthy in 2020.

I believe there is a lot of truth to the fact Zimmer has one more opportunity. I think this is why ownership jumped on Reave's as an assistant head couch. Not to be there to take Zimmers place as head couch but to help Zimmer through strategic decisions that hopefully would save his job. Best thing Zimmer could do is step away from draft day one and two.

This is my first round projection ... Because there will probably be 4 O Linemen off the board before we select. I would be fine with this pick. I watched the combine and Bradbury had really smooth foot work. He is perfect for a zone blocking scheme. In fact he is probably the best fit for Reaves zone run blocking ..

Good call. I agree. Some Eagles fans really like him now for us at 25, but he's the 4th OL of the board IMO.

Would be a huge for you guys. Watching teams with good offensive talent, but bad Olines is just bad for the league.

Thx.I'm down with the pick as well. best performer at the combine and great for zone blocking scheme. That said I thought we might take Taylor or Dillard when they were there.

Very happy with the pick.

Same here. Honestly, they really had no choice but to go O-line with the first pick unless every linemen even remotely worthy of the pick was already off the board and someone from another position of high value for the #18 pick had dropped. Hopefully they grab one more O-linemen between rounds 2-3, and beyond that I really don't care what else they do this draft. I'm just so over seeing that Swiss cheese offensive line for nearly a decade now haha.

So am I. First time in a long time. Kevin Williams might be the last time I liked the Vikings first round pick.

Lies, you loved Christian Ponder!

Not a big fan of that move. But I'd do like the player.

We just took a scheme specific player at a position that is almost never drafted in the 1st round at #18 overall.

And in doing so we basically just cashed in our 3rd round pick from 2 years ago to do it. I don't believe either Bradbury or Elflien can survive at guard because of their lack of power.

It really is sort of like drafting a slot WR in the 1st round because he is really good at bubble screens and you want to do more bubble screens next year.

If you were going to take a player like Bradbury, you needed to move down in the draft first IMO. I bet you most teams in the NFL wouldn't have touched him until the 3rd round. And the ones that would have given him a 1st round grade because he fits their scheme in all likelihood would have passed on him unless they were desperate at the position because of the low ranking of the center position. I just don't see a team out there that fits both of those things other than us.

Long and short we just slightly upgraded our center position.....but increased the likelihood of looking for a guard next offseason because Elflein simply doesn't have the strength needed to handle the stud DT's of this league one on one.

We might actually be a worse pass protecting interior OL right now than we were at week 8 of last year. Our zone run game just got a lot better.....but our ability to pass block along the interior is about the same at best. And the simple fact of the matter is that on 3rd and 8 all teams run the exact same scheme.

Bradbury was expected to go in the first, he wouldn't have lasted until 3rd round

The Vikings believe Elflein can play guard.

Couple of good OL left

Taylor/Ford/Risner. I doubt any of those 3 are there, but if one of them is, I wouldn't fault them for going OL 2 straight rounds

Otherwise I'm looking at Wr, LB, and DT

Cards cutting bradford stinks, because it would be nice to have an extra 3rd right now (comp pick)
