That's not fair Krafty, he wasn't even looking.....
You guys need to be a little more objective. You want the Pats to be strong at all positions, a fantasy dream by all means. We are not the only team with deficiencies and weaknesses. WTF? You expect the Pats to be perfect forever. LOL, give them a break man.
A LB he should be able to play all three downs if he's taken with the 25th overall pick. I'll say this in Hightower's defense...he's not the only problem with the defense.
Hightower was not brough in to cover he like Spikes are more run stoppers. IMO if this team would switch to a 3-4 next year the front seven could be solid. Round 1 draft best DE available, Nink does well at times but we still need more pressure of the edge. Between Wilfork, Kelly and possibly Aremestead we can rotate NTs in. Put Mayo and Colling at the OLB and Hightower and Spikes as ILB. Or Mayo OLB Spike and Collins ILB collins can move and stick with TE and Hightower on the other edge. I think the make up is there it's the line up which fails.
And please get a fucking defensive coordinator.
I agree Hightower is a run stopper first but you should get more out of #25 overall. The Fins exploited Gregory yesterday so they need to find another safety IMO. They signed Ninkovich to a 4yr $15.4 mil deal so he's here for the long haul...maybe they like getting an avg of 1/2 sack in his best year(2012) from that spot. There's more to playing DE than pressuring the QB but I'd like to see a player that can bring more pressure who's an average run stopper than the other way around. They need a young DT that can move and pressure the middle so maybe Armstead is that player...I guees it depends on how much of his body they had to remove due to the infection he had.
There is a DT at Pitt that watched this year and really liked if you get a chance look him up and take a look.
Donald? I haven't watched college football much at all this year and even what I saw was mostly in bits and pieces. I haven't seen him but I think he's got size working against him if he measures out at 6'0 285 Lbs. I guess it depends if he plays in the Senior Bowl and how well he does.
I know that it is a little too early to be mocking but Nix would be a fine fit for this team.
With that said - this has been a particularly cruel year for this team when it comes to injuries as Briz and others have brought up.
This team will likely look to defensive tackle and tight end in this years' draft. Nix and a 2nd round tight end (Fiedorowicz) would be solid options for the Pats.
Fiedorowicz is a good in-line blocking tight end, who is a very solid receiver and guess who his positional coach is. Aaron Hernandez's brother. He is well-coached at Iowa.
I have actually seen mocks targeting the Pats with Louis Nix III from Notre Dame.
I also think we need to target a Center. IMO TE should be the #1 priority a round one pick IF any of the top 3 TEs are on the board, if not get best NT/DT and then best TE. Maybe Center in third.
The problem drafting players with Nix size is if he works out well at the Combine or his Pro day he won't last.
Walterfootball already has him going to Tampa @ 9 so unless he coughs up a furball they'd have to trade up significantly to get him.
It's also highly probable that someone they have a very high grade on is available who isn't a top need but they think is much better than the alternatives. If a top notch safety, corner, or WR is available, and it's that or a pretty good DT or TE, I mean you have to take the top player, not just pick for needs. It's not like you're guaranteed a first year starter picking around #26 anyway, and how reliable are Talib, Dennard, Gregory, Edelman, Amendola, etc anyway?
All things being equal, they NEED a tight end, they need a DT, etc., but just because you need a player doesn't mean there'll be one worth the pick available.
How much different would this team look if they had been able to acquire Tony Gonzalez at the trade deadline, by the way?
