Lived here for 17 years, most of which they have used metrocards (RIP, Tokens), and I have NEVER purchased a single-ride card, nor do I know of anyone who has done so, because most of us, we need to actually get back home after the game's over.

no need to google.. if you take the train one way ie.. coming in to penn station from jersey and then take the train two stops to 49th st. but take the bus back home or get picked up from work there are reasons to purchase a single ride. i rarely ride the subway anymore but when i do it's generally only one way and only to save time
