If McCoy plays the entire game next week, you can lean towards the thinking that Cousins is at least being considered for the Day one starter. Now granted they could hold him out simply as a precautionary move in case RG3 is not cleared to play. We know McCoy will likely get the start next week, but if the plan is to not play Kirk at all, this will continue to get interesting.

Got to think Gruden is at least secretly hoping the doctors take this mess off his hands at least for week one. And if RG3 isnt cleared to play by at least 9/7 then you almost have to name Kirk the starter as the game plans for the two are likely to be completely different.

I agree that whom ever the starter is, they SHOULD play at least a few series next week. But if there is a chance Griffin wont be cleared for week one, and Cousins is going to be the starter, do we really risk him in the 4th preseason game with the only other healthy QB on roster being McCoy. Not that he isnt capable of running the offense. But who do we cut if Cousins some how cant play week one in order to clear a spot to then sign an emergency backup?? If Cousins plays at all, I would expect it to be a short stint with some seriously safe play calls, no long developing stuff that would put him at risk.

Why would you play KC in the 4th pre season game? Colt should play the whole game. Just b/c of the injury risk. There is no need to put KC out there versus backups.

Because he does need the work with the 1st team, even if it's against 2nd teamers. So does the OL.

Well, look who KC threw to. Guys he has practiced the most with on the second team. This is why if he is to start, he and the first team need the work. He needs to gain the timing and trust with them.

it is foolish to believe that getting "a few snaps " vs walmart baggers and gas staion jockey's is of more value then risking injury to a starter

no one in the nfl will do that and its foolish to keep harping on it because the risk vs reward doesnt warrant it

the offense will be fine with KC whether he gets the work or not

I assume you refer to the last preseason game? I have always been a firm believer that if you have a young, inexperienced team, which our offense is, the first team needs to play at least a few series. So whoever the starter will be the first game needs to play a bit this game. Many act like its a felony to play the first team in this game, but it happens all the time. Last year, both Peyton and Brady played in the last game as they felt they needed the work. This injury risk is always there. We've had more guys injured in non contact practice this year than in games.

It is my guess that rg3 will start if medically cleared in time to play in the last preseason game. However, if he isn't cleared until just before the first game, then KC will probably start game 1, but rg3 will resume as starter as soon as physically able.

We disagree then. I do see a benefit if there are specific things you have identified that you want you first team to work on in a live environment. Like KC to Garçon timing, short yardage situations, or anything to do with RG3s game.

Shark, I think you are wrong here. IF Cousins is the starter for game one you sit him, if the team starts him next week the starting line needs to be out there too just as a safety precaution. I don't see that happening.
