Gronk was injured, Brady missed first four games. No stand out elite players on defense, and no real stand out elite players on offense outside of Gronk and Brady but have some really good top ten level players and a few positions. This is based on individual performance and records are out the window.

Good post plus Brady was selected to second team, so for 12 games not bad

I agree with it more than the humans since they put Ha Ha Dix as a second team all pro and he's no where near that level. Dude is late every time on bombs on the outside.

Name recognition. Everyone remembers Clinton Dicks.

It worked out better this way for him because saving him for 4 games made him better unlike last season where he ran out of gas at the end of the year. He had a 99 ranking for those 12 games and really only 3 bad games vs Denver, Hawks, and Rams.

They gave him honorable mention and have four safeties listed above him. That means that while their ratings for the season added up to 7th place for him, they think enough of him to bump him up a couple of spots (probably due to those splash plays you were talking about).
Still kinda nuts that outright winning games against Atl and Car dont add up to anything other than an honorable mention.

Analystics only go so far. I think I read something on footballoutsiders where their analytics had Carolina with a higher grade than Denver after the Super Bowl in a game that Denver won.

Did he run out of gas, he still threw for the most Tds last season and almost 5k? He finished last year with an 102 rating and 112 this year, what is the 99 no#?

Yeah I don't think he ran out of gas as much as he ran into a great defense.

IDK, I just remember the last game of the season vs the Dolphins where he played an all time bad game and this year vs the Dolphins to finish the season he played to his level that's expected. I think saving him for the first four games worked.

Well there's more to playing well than just making several big plays, even if those plays turn out to be the difference between winning and losing.

I can't say that I've watched closely enough to definitively say which of those 5 safeties listed had the best season, but I know they all played very well and they're all ranked very closely overall.

As for footballoutsiders, I haven't seen that grade so I can't really comment on it, and I'm less familiar with their work than I am PFF. I will say though that Carolina moved the ball better than we did, we just made the splashier plays that turned out to be the difference. So if their metrics favor consistency over big plays, I could see how it's possible that they would grade Carolina higher, however as I said I'm really not that familiar with their methodology so I can't really say for sure.

Belichick had him handing off the ball in first half instead of building a big lead, and rest in second half. Now he didn't have a good game when he threw only 12 out of 21 passes

Absolutely shameful that TY Hilton didn't even get any votes.
Led the league in receiving yards.
2nd in 1st downs.
3rd in YPG.
10th in YPC.
t-10 in catches.
Zero fumbles.
