The Hollywood Reporter: Henry Cavill Out as Superman Amid Warner Bros.' DC Universe Shake-Up

The DC cinematic universe appears to be losing its Man of Steel. Henry Cavill, who has played Superman in three films, is parting ways with Warner Bros., sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

Warners had been trying to enlist Cavill, who most recently co-starred in Mission: Impossible — Fallout, for a Superman cameo in Shazam!, which stars Zachary Levi and will bow April 5. But contract talks between Cavill's WME reps and Warners broke down, and the door is now closing on other potential Superman appearances.

This is further fueling widespread speculation that Henry Cavill may now be available to be cast as the next James Bond.

A writer friend I know who has some hollywood connections posted this;

I know he had a scene in Shazam that apparently he couldn't do due to scheduling conflicts and that was the breaking point. Let's say...a little bird read the script...it was literally one scene at the end and it was Superman meeting Billy Batson (not Shazam). I won't give away the exact moment but it was cool, cute scene to help close out the film, which, if they stick to the script I, uh, a little birdie read, is great. I guess, of they ever keep the scene, that will end up being the debut of the new Superman.


It sounds like DC wasn't happy because he couldn't appear plus the whole mustache incident they got a ton of shit for so it was probably like quit because he knew his days were numbered type of scenario.

If this is true, this sucks. He fits the role perfectly. I wasn't looking forward to MOS. Especially after the Brandon Routh crap version. But, MOS was very, very good. I'm a big fan of it.

This seems like they're just running entirely from BvS (hence the comment about Affleck as well).

I'm just hoping this does mean that they're going to avoid the idiotic "Injustice" storyline.
