I'm curious as to why you think opening weekend of rifle season is the best time for a good deer??

When you compare the second weekend to the first weekend, they are way more skittish after opening weekend. Opening weekend they haven't been shot at yet.
I always looked at it differently.
Opening weekend you can hear shots from miles away, in every direction, every other minute, and they aren't used to hearing that. Everybody and their brother is out hunting opening day. They are far more skittish imo. Most of the deer I've shot opening weekend were on the move.
Example.....
I had a doe out in my pasture yesterday (about 9:00am) that was every bit of 100 yds from my house. She was munching the nice green (mowed) short grass that gets choked out from the tall brome grass further away.
I'd tap on the window one time with my fingernail and she'd look up toward the house with her white tail raised. She'd put her tail down, go back to eating and I'd tap again. She'd look up again. After about 4 taps in the span of a minute she ran off into the woods. They have extreemely keen hearing.
I live on a busy street (main thoroughfare) where the traffic is heavy in the middle of the day (cars, motorcycles, trucks). It didn't bother her one iota because she's used to that noise. What she wasn't used to the taps on the window.
True...that also can be a benefit to us because the people whose land is next to ours always go nuts opening weekend and push all of the deer to our quiet land.
I had to go to the mall with the wife, I'm going to shoot some vodka
did you get the panties she wanted ---- ??
Lol, whatever it was she got I jest agreed it was the best I'd ever seent, I've been around
