Why are people questioning why Te'o is a finalist? The award has almost always been given to the best player on the best team, and in the regular season that was Te'o and ND. Said player on said team is at least always in the conversation.

I don't understand how any arguement can be made for Te'o. To win as a defensive player, you have to be DOMINANT. Every play I watch, I should be able to pick you out with ease. When Suh was nominated, he filled that requirement. You knew where he was at all times because he was blowing people up. Te'o doesn't meet those standards. He's a good player, but not great. Shit, both Jarvis Jones and Jadaveon Clowney are better candidates than Te'o if you're picking a defensive player.

I didn't know that was the requirement. Te'o, Klien and Johnny aren't competing with past players, only those currently playing CFB, why is this so difficult to grasp?

Yeah, we should make sure we honor the Heisman tradition!

Wait.

Just my opinion, but the Heisman is supposed to go to "the most outstanding player in college football." I know it usually goes to an offensive player on a top tier team, but I don't think it should have to. I think if a defensive player is the best, or if an offensive guy is the best but he has a shitty defense and thus goes 6-6, that guy should still win the trophy. I don't think Te'o fits that first description though.

I agree completely. Having said that, my vote goes to Manziel.

Manziel in no way shape or form deserves it.

In 2 of the 3 biggest games of the year he crapped the bed. 0 passing TDs, 3 INTs, less than 100 yards combined and 1 rushing TD. If you only have 1 good game against the 3 biggest opponents then you don't deserve it. Had he played Bama in week 1 instead of this late he wouldn't be the "front runner".

In your example you compared a Dlineman to a MLB, where is the Heisman tradition in that? Te'o has to be the most dominant defensive player ever to win the Heisman?

Jarvis Jones is currently playing college football and i think a lot of people would argue that he is better. That is why i have a hard time believing Te'o is deserving of this award.

You have a hard time contributing to your team's success when you can't stay healthy though.

I agree Jones is a better "talent" but he hasn't been a better player and hasn't been the most important person on his team this year.

OU has already gone up against Klein and Teo.

Klein sealed the deal with the go ahead TD and final 3rd down converstion to seal the game using his legs.

Teo made a heads up play and caught a tipped pass for the only TO of the game that lead to a FG giving ND a 10 point lead with 3min to go.

Both had Heisman like performance in the game.

Right now I'd give the nod to Klein. Johnny is next. I could change my opinion after the bowl game but I think Klein wins it.

Unfortunately it will be too late by then. I think that's the way it should be though, it's a regular season award...

First of all, I never compared Te'o to any player, past or current. You are confusing me with another guy.

Secondly, of course he doesn't have to be the most dominant defensive player ever to win the Heisman. If you read what I said in the same post you cherrypicked that quote from, I think the Heisman should go to the best individual player in all of college football, regardless of position (lol punter for Heisman) and regardless of the team's record. Te'o might very well be the best player on the team with the best record, but there are better players on teams that have lost games.

If Suh couldn't win the Heisman, no defensive player should win the Heisman unless we are talking about the second coming of Lawrence Taylor.

Te'o is not on that level. He's slightly above the Honey Badger from last year (71 tackles, 5 FF, 2 INTs, 4TDS, was on the #1 team) and he only got 5th place last year in Heisman voting while getting top nods for defensive player of the year.

So it comes down to Klein and Manziel. They both play QB except one is more exciting and has better numbers. Klein is in a BCS Bowl like Luck was last year but perception is that RG3 won it due to his play at the end of the year. Same thing here.

Give it to the Freshman.

Breaking down the three Heisman Candidates though here is my biased take (heads up: I'm campaigning for Te'o)

Johnny Football: First the kid has the best nickname in CFB. For him though I will simply reiterate Tubbs post above, as I thought it really nailed it:
In 2 of the 3 biggest games of the year he crapped the bed. 0 passing TDs, 3 INTs, less than 100 yards combined and 1 rushing TD. If you only have 1 good game against the 3 biggest opponents then you don't deserve it. Had he played Bama in week 1 instead of this late he wouldn't be the "front runner".
I'm not against Freshman or RS Freshman winning the award, but there is a legitimate reason none have, and it's because it takes them a few games to adapt to CFB, while upper classman hit the ground running. Biggest wins: @ then #1 Alabama/ @ LA Tech. Again, I don't think winning one huge game/losing two/ and then beating up cupcakes the rest of the year should win you the Heisman.
Heisman moment: The whole Alabama game.

Collin Klien: Directed another dream season for a KSU team that has been the "AQ bracketbuster" in recent years. Lead his team to a Big 12 Championship, with a marquee win @ Oklahoma(Big 12 co-champ), and vs Texas. However when everything was on the line (first time KSU earned a #1 ranking in the BCS era, maybe ever?), he faltered, and his Wildcats got slaughtered by a Baylor team that had a losing record going into the game. First time a team with a losing record going into the game beat a #1 team. Klein threw 3 picks and rushed for 39 on 17 carries. The 28 point beat down his team received is tied for the worst loss a BCS ranked #1 team has ever received.
Heisman moment: Getting the 3rd down conversion to enable KSU to run out the clock in Norman? (I didn't catch a KSU they won...)

Manti Te'o: Get ready to roll your eyes :becky: The heart and soul of a Notre Dame program returning to the promised land that had long forsaken ND (24 years for those counting). He is the leader of the #1 defense in the land (allowing 10.3 ppg). 2nd in the entire FBS with 7 picks(Lead all Linebackers). Lead the D with 103 tackles. You want goal line stands? Te'o was in on each of the 4 plays ND stuffed Stanford from the one yard line to win in OT. Was in on multiple plays when USC had 8 plays inside the ND 10 (5 plays around the 1 yard line), on a stand that secured the Irish's spot in the NC. Sealed the game with a pick against Oklahoma, sacked Pitts QB in OT when they were driving. The guy was simply amazing in the clutch this year. Last and probably least to most of y'all he had two intercepts and shut down Denard Robinson a day or so after both his girlfriend and grandma died. He is also a great person off the field and is a finalist for the Lowe's CLASS award. Biggest wins: Stanford(PAC12 champ)/@ Oklahoma(Big12 co-champ).
Heisman moment: A tough choice between the Michigan performance, the Stanford goal line stand or the Oklahoma interception. My vote goes to the Oklahoma pick.

My mistake, I saw you quoted both and assumed...

Fair enough I made my case*
