2 years $20M

Bit steep, but good for him.

That being said, what do the Commanders do now? My guess is anyone coming here will want to be at least told they will get to compete for the starting spot.

On the one hand, I'm sorry to see TH go. He's got heart, he's got passion, he was exciting to watch play, and he is almost a good qb.
The Commanders play the falcons this year and next year and so there's also a possibility of going up against TH which doesn't particularly thrill me either: he seems to do quite well in "revenge games" or "games that mean something extra" to him (facing Brady, playing in Lambeau, etc).

On the other hand, he's 30, and has seemingly already reached his ceiling, $20million is an awful lot for basically a high quality backup qb, and when "bad TH comes out to play, it's usually catastropic.

I'm happy for him, but when I saw it on my phone this morning I immediately felt a huge sense of relief.

Good or bad, Heinicke and his cult following have hijacked this team for three years now. He saved Ron's bacon more than once, but there is a ceiling with Heinicke and its not high.

Sometimes you have to take a step back in order to take two steps forward.

Hopefully a new owner. Hopefully a legitimate NFL QB. If not Howell, than someone else next year. Slowly but surely I feel like I'm getting my football team back.

I have always said TH is a great story. He is limited though. I am glad for him though. He got off that couch and has made close to $30 million dollars.

TH is a good (not great) QB.

That being said, he isnt good enough to make up for a patch work O-line and he does have a tendency to get out over his skis and try to hard at times.

What this team doesnt need is another name type guy who just needs the right "system" around him.

My worry is if they go Minshew (who I like) we will have the same issues with a portion of the fanbase.

I'm in favor of a journeyman with some upside and another rookie. I think the Commanders should draft a rookie qb every year until they hit on one. Maybe not one of the top guys, but not a huge project either. There's no reason to think that they can't find a Brock Purdy at least once in the next 20 years..... :-)

Lol.....so true.
what i dont want is a Mariota, Mayfield, Darnold

If Howell is the guy, so be it. But bringing in someone elses named flop is a sure fire way to make sure neither succeed.

TH was not happy RR benched him in lieu of Wentz vs Browns. It was made known by his college coach of whom TH confides in. He wasn't coming back here and he definitely wasn't returning on a $20m deal. Good luck to him and the Falcons as they over spent for a back up player no one was giving $20m to.

Darnold went to SF and Mayfield is supposedly on his way to Tampa. I'm hoping for Brissett. I keep hearing Dalton......I dunno how I feel about that.

Heard today on Sheehan that Lamar is a hard no and I don't see AR15 or Levis making it to 16. They have made their bed with Howell, so I hope they give him every chance to succeed. Last thing he needs is a fan fav backup.

I can't express how happy I am that Heinicke got paid. Just glad it's not here. He played with no fear and his hair on fire. Does make me question is my boy Kyle Smith really on board with giving TH 20m?

I wont say every year but if you can find a project every couple of years, you are good to go. As for Purdy, I think he is a product of the team and coach. He had a great OL, good running game, and decent WRs. He was never asked to do too much and the defense was capable of bailing him out.

I remember when somebody from this board kept saying we need Kyle Shanghai back when he was OC in Houston. That was a smart dude. Biggest mistake we made was losing KS.
