Apparently is NOT so heavy.

Says he is in his best shape in a few years and was not in the best shape last year partly b/c he lightened his summer training so he would not be as worn by the end of the year (a strategy he now thinks was not the correct one). He is back in town early for training camp and seems to want to be a better, more serious leader. He also likes his new Bauer sticks and has been having little luck breaking them despite his best efforts.

Wow, he really hasn't taken care of himself up to this point if he is in the best shape of his career. At least he is more fit than Byfuglin ;)

Apparently didn't read the article... He said he feels like he's in better shape than the last two seasons. Which still wouldn't mean he's out of shape or not in fitness, it's just relative to himself. And it's fairly common that guys train harder and are in better shape in the prime/late stages of their careers as they can't do the things they could in their late teen/early 20s when your body is ridiculously efficient and adaptive.

OV's ATOI has been among the top 10 for forwards pretty much every year of his career. His cardio/endurance is as good as any guy in the league. Last year locally some questioned if he was as light/nimble/quick as in the past. Maybe he wasn't, but it appears it was part of an effort to not be as burned out as year's end.

I think Caps' fans knew he'd be ready (we worry about Sasha Minor, not Sasha Major), but I'm happy to hear he's in town early and feeling good. He usually stays in Russia as long as possible. So that's a good sign.
