I think Trent, Kerrigan, Norman, ASmith and Reed will all be off the books after 2 years. If Allen continues to play at his present level why wouldn't they pay him? Even if Haskins and Sweat are a huge success they have 4 years before getting the huge pay check. Actually both could be three years if the Skins don't sign them before they become FAs.

I agree that there's going to be enough money to pay Allen by then. However, since they are mentioned in your post here are my thoughts on the players you've listed.

1. Williams...max value in trade is this year or next, this year won't happen, and two years out won't get us the value that we could have.

2. Kerrigan...Too late, his max value was this year, since we seem to be sticking with him now, his trade value drops to next to nothing two years out.

3. Norman, I believe will renegotiate his deal, if he's not a June cut. He can't stay on his current contract, youngsters are chomping at the bit to become starters and at age 31, there's a career downside coming his way.

4. A. Smith....I believe that @Shark told me that he couldn't be bought out at the moment. A one time cap hit would have been ideal IMO if it was allowed. He's basically done here, especially if Haskins proves to be who we all hope that he can be.

5. Reed... An interesting year for this guy, remain healthy and he gets to celebrate his 30th birthday in Burgundy and gold. Anything less and he's trade bait, albeit, acutely diminished trade bait.

I expect Trent and Kerrigan to be here two more years.

Norman, interesting thought. He is a place they could save some money and pay guys like Allen and Scherff.

Smith is gone as soon as they can do it and Reed needs to be huge to get past this contract. His only dominant year was 2015. He has three years left on his contract but he is a dead cap hit of $1.8 million if cut next year.

So TW and RK are to be lifers huh?

I have to admit that the idea behind retiring here is an attractive one, but many players re-sign with their former teams for that purpose. To me it's all business, Williams has been here for 10 years, Kerrigan, 9 years, the fall off is inevitable and a lot closer than some want to admit. It's better to get future value too early than too late. Both of these guys are at, or approaching, that too late period. So it all comes down to value vs a feel good moment which could come later. I'll take value now for $1,000 Alex! (my Jeopardy reference)

Yep, you have made taken this stance for some time. I see no reason to trade Kerrigan. He still was in the top 10 in sacks and he can help teach Sweat. I don't think anyone is going to give a lot for either.

I worry more about Trent because he is missing more and more time but where are you going to get a very good to great left tackle? Can't really cut him this year. Lets see how he holds together this year.

They may but I doubt it

Agreed! Right now it's merely OTA's but this may sharpen a bit if Trent becomes a camp holdout. They will fine him then and both sides will entrench themselves in their respective positions. Trent wanting a new deal and the team insisting that he fulfils his current contract which has two years remaining.

I just can't see Williams or his agent giving up the only true leverage that they have after this public news. They are also aware of Trent's injury history and Washington's shortsightedness in not drafting his replacement sooner.

(Please don't suggest Geron Christian)
