I think this is the key point.
And for the record, I've actually defended Crosby not being a "whiner" back in the Swamp on several occasions b/c personally, I think that's part of a captain's job. If refs often "even up" penalties during a game, letting them know you are not happy helps this happen. My view of him didn't change much from what I thought of him before the series - he's a captain doing his job.
BUT, I think if you watch the Pens-Caps game in episode #3 there was a GREAT example of where this perception may come from. Crosby was high-sticked and there was no call and Ovechkin was whistled for a tripping penalty that clearly was not. Ovechkin was pissed and cussed at the refs as he angrily looped prior to going in the box - it was loud, snarling, and masculine. Crosby was pissed and cussed at the refs, but he had a sad sack look on his face and his voice had a "whiney" tone to it and even cracked as he talked.
I think 46 is right... it's more the way he operates that earned him that rep. than him doing things much different from many other NHLers.
So, what you're saying is Sid needs to lace his agruments with more obscenities and greater 'snarl' to appeal to whatever stereotype you're placing on how he deals with the refs?
