I think this is the key point.

And for the record, I've actually defended Crosby not being a "whiner" back in the Swamp on several occasions b/c personally, I think that's part of a captain's job. If refs often "even up" penalties during a game, letting them know you are not happy helps this happen. My view of him didn't change much from what I thought of him before the series - he's a captain doing his job.

BUT, I think if you watch the Pens-Caps game in episode #3 there was a GREAT example of where this perception may come from. Crosby was high-sticked and there was no call and Ovechkin was whistled for a tripping penalty that clearly was not. Ovechkin was pissed and cussed at the refs as he angrily looped prior to going in the box - it was loud, snarling, and masculine. Crosby was pissed and cussed at the refs, but he had a sad sack look on his face and his voice had a "whiney" tone to it and even cracked as he talked.

I think 46 is right... it's more the way he operates that earned him that rep. than him doing things much different from many other NHLers.

So, what you're saying is Sid needs to lace his agruments with more obscenities and greater 'snarl' to appeal to whatever stereotype you're placing on how he deals with the refs?

You are getting WAY too defensive about this. And no, his arguments (like everyone else's) are laden with plenty of profanity.

I SPECIFICALLY said I don't think that, but he does have that "perception" among some fans. People clown on him for it, he won a players' vote years ago for it, etc. etc. I also don't think OV is a "dirty" player, but some people have that "perception" of him.

I don't care what he does or doesn't do, b/c I respect the hell out of him, but I thought the observation was pertinent to the discussion.

these two posts tell me that you either aren't paying attention anymore to what we are saying, or we somehow aren't communicating properly.

Crosby earned his right to argue with the refs. As shown throughout 24/7, and every night in the NHL, players from every team have heated arguments and disagreements with the refs.

I don't really see in the two posts of mine you quoted what is confusing about what my message is... IMO, when Crosby bitches at the refs, it rubs fans of opposing teams the wrong way. Yet, other players do the same exact thing, yet nobody gives a shit.

Others in this thread opine that it's the tone of Crosby's voice that irritates them. I've got nothing to say to that.

I don't really see where I'm getting too defensive about it. I'm simply discussing it, just like everyone else is in this thread. Maybe because of the subject matter, it appears that way... i don't know.. I'm not calling names, or being ignorant. I'm sorry if you feel that way.

IMO, fans of the game hear what they want to hear, particularly when it comes to Sidney Crosby. People either respect him, or dislike him. I see it as him disagreeing with a call, or non-call. Others see it as him 'whining'.

To each there own.

I totally agree with you. But if as you say, all NHL players do this, and he is the one with the perception of being a whiner, something must be different that others are seeing about him. So I was just trying to get at the WHY of what is bolded above.

I thought the tone observation was a possible explanation - that is all. I have zippy problem with how he operates and I thought you were defensive b/c you were saying I was telling Crosby how he should act. I wasn't.

He can do whatever he'd like, although I'd prefer it if he stops scoring so many damn goals! :)

He's a polarizing figure. When something happens that involves Crosby, it gets a larger reaction... both positive and negative, than what say a Cal Clutterbuck is going to receive.

Fans of the opposition DO want to see him act differently. Otherwise, this subject wouldn't come up. Does he need to? Perhaps... maybe he should try dealing with the refs with a little more Chuck Norris behind his words.

In reality, he could howl at them like a Marine drill sergeant, and people would still bitch about him. The effect won't ever change because of who he is, and what the League has painted him to be.

Maybe so. We can all use a little more Chuck Norris! :)

The last few minutes really got me. I especially love the Muse song they used for those moments.

I was watching part of a recent Pens game (after Winter Classic), and something interesting happened - my first thought was "I can't wait to see this part in the documentary". alas, no more documentary :(

I really hope they try and do this during the preseason... I'd like to see the tension and nerves of trying to make the team.

there is an Oilers one running up here, called 'Oil Change' about the rebuilding process.
it's not quite as compelling, though.

I do look forward to their inclusion of last night's game though :D

Just watched the finale, Crosby's bitch meter went up as the episodes went on. My favorite is when he never ceases to push the refs, "I give you a powerplay and you give me attitude?" lol leave no whines behind!
