1. With what cap space?

2. Crawford is shitting his drawers right now thinking of a Campbell-Campoli pairing.

Nice!!! A 2011 Second rounder and Ryan Potulny for Campoli is what TSN says.

The Sens now have 5 picks in the top 60 this year.

Campoli learned of the trade from Gino Reda.

that's really fucking poor communication from management.

This is a good trade.

I also like picking up McElliheny (sp?) as well.

Ottawa is cleaning house the right way. They're all in about it, not faking the situation they're in and building for the future.

Yeah, this is really the right way to go about rebuilding and I've actually gotta say that Murray has surprised me and in a good way. He's made some pretty good trades and decisions the last month. It makes me think he might just be the man for the job and believe it or not, Clouston has been impressive through this too. Not once has he complained and he's stayed focused on the task at hand all season. I would not be the least bit surprised if both guys return next year tbh. We'll have to see though.

I really wish Kuba had been dealt though. That was the one thing that I really wanted to see. My guess is that there's a pretty good chance he gets bought out now unless he can seriously improve his play the last little bit of this season.

So for the last few years, he has pissed off a ton of players, decimated one of the most vaunted defenses, signed some of the biggest jokes in the league, traded solid players for inflatable goalies, turned a contender into a bottom feeder, brought every private conversation to the very pubic media and tried to blame the players when the shit hit the fan and let players leave without, you know, TALKING to them and you're willing to give him a pass because he managed to pick up 5 handfuls of magic beans for 5 bonafide NHL players?

Yeah, his back was to the wall. I get that. BUT WHO PUT HIM THERE?

The guy is a fucking tard. And the Sens will have three Aprils at minimum to ponder that fact.

I agree that a new, young GM would be nice, although Murray's strength IS drafting.

As for missing the playoffs for the next 3 years? Honestly as bad as this team has been if they had had NHL quality goaltending and a healthy Spezza or Alfredsson all year they would have competed (8-10 spot) for a playoff spot this year. I'm glad they didn't or else we'd see more stopgap "solutions", but in a weak East nothing is out of the question. Depending on which direction they choose to go with free agency, their ~ $20M in cap space and 3 picks in the first 33 this year, the Sens could be be a lower seed next year. I doubt they'll go for it next year(and I hope they don't), but I could see them being a lot like Colorado was last year either next year or the following year: young and streaky but a playoff team.

The Blackhawks overpaid, BIG. Be prepared to see a lot of turnovers at the offensive blueline. I thought Chicago was looking for a defensive defenseman to help on the penalty kill. Campoli won't help much with that. He can run the powerplay though.

The one thing Murray has done well is drafting and to have him around to do that would be a good thing. He's not very good at getting good teams over the hump but he's good at finding a good group of young guys like he did in Anaheim. I figure he's got a couple years left and over that time he can put his good drafting to work. Then another guy can come in and finish the job.

His trades show me that he is clearly focused on the future and he's doing it in a respectful way. He's dealt well respected guys to places they wouldn't mind going and he got Phillips locked up. He didn't just force him out, he gave him a choice and other players around the league notice that kind of thing.

And the bottom line is that Murray really was in a shitty spot when he took over from a prospects point of view. There was nothing in the system when he took over so when players left then he had to try and find stop gaps. Those stop gaps didn't pan out obviously and now they are where they are. This downturn was inevitable and it was pretty obvious it would happen when Alfie's career was coming to a close, especially after the Heatley fiasco.

Well, at least Murray kind of made up for trading a 1st rounder for him with this trade.

The Fisher trade and this trade could go a long way in speeding up the rebuilding process...

Yeah but you've got to consider you got Hillary Duff in that trade as well. She's worth the 1st round pick alone.:D
