Harrison suspended one game

NFL is just too soft now. I understand the need for player safety but man this is rediculous, the old time guys like the rest of us are shaking our heads. Dont think he needed to be suspended but the hit was still a little high and to the head and i guess they felt fines werent getting harrisons attention.

I understand McCoy ran out and didnt help his cause but Harrison needs to hit a little lower. Kind of hard when thats Harrisons style of play, tough loss for you guys. One of these game probably in the playoffs the refs are gonna flag a guy for roughing the passer/hit to the head and its gonna keep the team alive/possibly give them a chance to win. Its gonna happen, and there will be a lot of pissed off fans after.

I think that's the issue, obviously if he had hit lower, Colt wouldn't have gotten a concussion. But since he did, helmet to helmt, lowered and springed at him after the throw... recipe for a penalty & more.

Had he hit anywhere lower(above knees) or just threw his arms into Colt like a push/shove, this incident would be non-material.

it should still be a good monday night game between our 2 teams .. I dont think having harrison out will affect our defence all that much .. he did miss 4 games when he had the eyesocket injury and we won some games against very good teams

Steelers fans just curious what do you guys think your chances are? Of course like any fan homerism is always there. But just curious as to what you think the games gonna be like? Even with our record we have been overlooked and our past history supports that. Just curious how you guys are feeling especially with injuries/suspensions we have a few guys banged up as well.

IDK .. james can be a game changer .. but so can alot of our other players on the defence ... I have to admidt you guys are the only ones that worry me for the rest of our schedule

Thanks, but even without James, I feel your OLBs and Troy will just destroy the right side of the OL similar to what the Ravens did. It's more of a lack of trust and confidence in both the OL and our coaches in countering that problem.

Losing to the Cards was unexcusable but this game, since the ravens terror, was/is a redeem game for me and even more so now that Saints are tied with us for #2...

It's basically the playoff barometer for us, we play well and win, our chances in the playoffs to the SB are good. We lose and fail, KC Chiefs in the making IMO.

well you guys have flown under the radar for most of the season and you have done well .. Im not expecting a blowout from either team .. I do believe you all will play us hard and I dont expect the winner to win by more than a td ..but thats my opinion ..I just dont want to see injuries for either team .. cause that would just make for some bad post season ball

I wouldn't say that was a tackle but more so a knockout hit.... if a tackle, he should've gone through him in the body area not the head area. That was a knockout shot IMO...

again, didn't feel it was suspension worthy but I see it why solely because James had a history of this nonsense....

I agree 100% with the first paragraph. It's clear from the tape that Harrison saw McCoy throw it, then lowered his head and drove for McCoy's head. Given his history, his clear lack of familiarity with the rules of the game (just inexcusable at this point given how many issues he's had), and his insistence that he did nothing wrong, I have no problem with a suspension here.

I disagree with a lot of the BS calls in the league today. Hitting a good QB in the thigh is a penalty, touching him a second after he throws, whistling some QBs (e.g., Alex Smith) dead when they've got a guy hanging on their ankle but not others (e.g., Vick or Roethlisberger), flagging glancing blows to the head when a guy is trying to deflect a pass, etc. That's all ridiculous and hurts the game. But given what they now know about concussions, it would be irresponsible to allow a hit like this one to go unpunished. It might detract somewhat from our enjoyment of the game, but it's too much to ask for that sort of thing to be allowed on a regular basis.

And on a personal note, can I just say, "Praise Jesus!" Maybe Alex will actually live to see week 15 now.

It's worth noting that penalties involving lowering your head are also in place to protect the defensive players. Lots of guys have been seriously injured, paralyzed, or worse going into someone with their head down. Not much risk of that on this particular play, but that's another rule that I think is very legit, even though it seems a bit strange to penalize the guy you're trying to protect.

I just went and watched the replay of that. Yikes. That was pretty bad. Shocked he only got 1 game out of that. As blatant as it comes. I don't know what some of you guys are complaining about.

1. He hit him in the face mask with the crown of his helmet.
2. He hit him late. Ball was long gone.
3. It was intentional. I don't see how there is any question about that.
4. If you pay money to go to a game you have a right to see the best players on both teams compete and not be senselessly injured on late & blatantly illegal hits.

I don't think losing Harrison would hurt the steelers much they do have Jason Worilds to take his place..He played in 9 games and starting 4 for them this year.He has 3 sacks and 26 tackles and 1 force fumble..does anyone know if woodley is playing?? He hasn't played the last few games

I don't get it, the rule is hitting a defenseless player, McCoy was scrambling and saw the player who hit so he was not defenseless he just chose not to defend himself. I don't know how that could have even been flagged let alone a suspension. I like the league trying to protect it's players, not launching at the head of a defenseless player, not using a players equipment to make a tackle, etc... but they need to make the personal fouls reviewable like how TD's are done, the booth official would just confirm the penalty or can pick up the flag via pager, no need for the head official to go under the hood.
