Two of his top five RBI totals came in the mid to late '90s so it's not as if he he were some part time player who didn't benefit much from the offensive explosion of the '90s.

He's better than some guys in the hall (which says more about the voters), but there's nothing really HOF worthy about him...

Don't forget his Gold Gloves and perfect games and WS ring. And pitching in the roids era.

Pitchers were roiding too, so you can't pin the whole thing on some hitters roiding when pitchers were doing it as well (and we saw how well it worked for guys like Clemens, Brown, Neagle in the late '90s).

There was also expansion in the '90s (which diluted the talent crop somewhat), and smaller and hitter-friendly ballparks began to open in the '90s. There's also the juiced ball theory, although it hasn't been proven.

A number of pitchers pitched during the same era and had comparable/better numbers, so I don't see how he gets a pass/adjustment for this.

And while he has a ring, he was good in just 1 of his 4 postseason starts.

The best comparison to Buehrle (performance-wise) might be a guy like David Wells, who's definitely not a HOFer.

Why don't you compare the stats between Wells and Buehrle and try to argue that Buehrle's are much better? Or do White Sox greats get extra points cause they're on the hometown team?

Wells has a better career record, better WHIP, better BB/9, better K/9, more complete games and shutouts, better playoff stats.

Roids helped pitchers stay healthy and older pitchers extend their prime. However, it does not do anywhere near the same thing performance wise for the average pitcher that it could for hitters. Pitching didn't improve during this time. Hitting did.

These numbers are nearly identical between the two and Buehrle has a better ERA. You're not wrong that Wells is better in those numbers. However, you're being a tad disingenuous in your representation. The difference with these are microscopic, for the most part. Wells record has somewhat of a gap at .029 in win percentage... but he also played for much, much better teams. Winning despite surrendering more runs.

This is evident in the amount of playoff games he got to pitch in. Where... by the way, you conveniently left out that Buehrle had a better playoff WHIP.

Your case is disingenuous and underwhelming.

I do not believe Buehrle, nor Baines belong in the HOF. FWIW

When he retired after the 2001 season, he was the all-time leader among designated hitters in games, runs, hits, homers and RBIs.
