I always respected that Raines slid head first due to the fact he had a vile of blow in his back pocket. :yahoo:

As Heyman would say "he's only cheating himself"

Who voted for Tom Gordon or Aaron Boone or Darin Erstad?

I did, and I would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those meddling kids...........

Congrats to those who got in but 1 of these years you know Bonds and Rose got to get in. 2 of the best players of all-time shouldn't be shut out of the Hall of Fame.

The second Rose dies, he has my vote.

Rose agreed to be banned. Why shouldn't his agreement be honored?

Agreed. Biggio played a few different positions (average fielder at best) had a lower lifetime BA than Kent and always sucked in the playoffs. He did play forever (was very durable as well) and compiled 3000 hits. ..As someone recently said, pitchers didn't stay awake at night worrying about getting Biggio out.

Then you must've missed much of his prime...I mean, the guy went an entire decade with a near .400 OBP and averaging 110 runs a year.

I'll back Pete Rose until the day I die. If anyone deserves a spot in the Hall it's him.

I agree... If those juicers can get in so should Pete.

Like I said earlier, Rose agreed to be banned in order for MLB/Dowd to stop the investigation...whose fault is that?

They should propose to Petey boy that he can be eligible again but in exchange they get to re-open the investigation, and I doubt he'll agree to that, considering that Dowd claimed he had evidence that showed that Rose bet against his own team but time constraints to finish the report prevented him from verifying it and hence being able to put it into the final report.

Rose isn't one of the best players of all-time. HOF caliber? Sure. But that's it.

It's probably more about his sexual preference than his alleged steroid use....

:wtf2: In any case the voting for HOF is a joke. Who in his right mind actually believes Barry Bonds was not a HOF long before the steroids allegations? Give me a break.

Are you seriously saying you never heard the rumors? Or are you saying it had nothing to do with his voting results?

While in a "perfect world", it would not affect his vote, in the real world, it absolutely did cost him votes.

The quote about pitchers not losing sleep wasn't mine...He had some nice years as a table-setter and was durable. Bagwell was much more feared in my opinion and at least Beltran produced for them in the playoffs while he was there (two years).

I watched him plenty. I especially watched him get dominated several times in the postseason hitting .235 with a OBP under around .290 (40 games)

I think he was a damn good player, and his longevity and durability were probably his biggest attributes enabling him to compile 3000 hits. I don't hate that he is in the HOF, but I can think of several others that I would have liked to have seen inducted before him.

You're putting way too much emphasis on postseason...plenty of guys in baseball history were awful in the playoffs and HOF players, just as plenty of guys were postseason studs and not HOF caliber players. I mean, has a bad postseason resume really hurt a guy who clearly had the numbers in the regular season?

Even if he retired earlier and didn't get 3,000 hits, I'd say he was a HOF caliber player. If you're going to hold the 'compiler' argument against him, it's also fair to agree that playing longer hurts your rate stats....I mean, if he retired after 2005, he'd have about 2800 hits, but would have a .370 OBP and 115 OPS+ along with 1600 runs, 400 steals, 250+ HR, 600 doubles....I'd say he was HOF worthy at that point, even without 3000 hits.

I am not a WAR guy at all, but I like how baseball references does their HOF qualifications... They combine a players WAR with their 7 best seasons... even though I hate WAR, I am still interested in seeing players WAR7, or there JAWS(WAR and WAR7)...

What perfect world are you talking about? Stereoids and other so-called " performance enhancing drugs" have been around forever in which the same baseball writers were aware but did not think was important enough to make a big deal out of it until Barry bonds broke the single season home run record. Does anybody in his rightmind thinks there are no steroids users in the HOF? Puhleease.

It might have cost him votes at the same time exposing the holier than thou hypocrites in the media who vote for the HOF.

By the way, rumors about someone's sexuality has zero impact in the vote for HOF with racists and other less stellar characters in there. Except that we have a bunch of sanctimonious clowns voting players into HOF.

I still don't understand what you are stating.

Are you saying the rumors did, or did not cost him votes? I am not asking if it SHOULD HAVE cost him votes. I am asking if it DID cost him votes.
