The only way this turns out badly for the blues is if they pay Halak something ridiculous like 6-7 mil a season.

This came out of left field. Looks like JD wants his goaltending set for a while, and took care of business. Hopefully for the Blues they can get him inked to a fair contract, and hopefully for the Habs Eller pans out.

I've seen this guy in the A, I honestly believe he has a higher ceiling than any of St. Louis's other young guns. Obviously there's no telling if he'll fulfill his potential, but I think he can be better than Perron, Oshie, Backes, Berglund. He reminds me of Peter Forsberg, although not as physical.

i would expect to see a signing in the very near future (E62).
you don't trade for an RFA without knowing what it takes to sign him.

Was management in Montreal hanging out with Superflyer all day?
I am not looking forward to facing Halak 6 times in the regular season next year.

Ahahaha I actually said the same thing out loud when I first seen this thread. :D

I think Carey Price is going to surprise a lot of people this year in a good way. Just throwing it out there. :)

Very odd. I'd love to hear what the contract demands were from Halak. After just the regular season I wouldnt have minded or been shocked. After the post season though I am very surprised and shocked.

Yeah...me too Comeds. It must have been insane enough to guarantee his departure huh?

Maybe that was his intent from the get go.

Well, I'm sure by the end of the weekend, we'll know.......but, wow.....I never would have thought this transaction would be happening after these playoffs. Never.

I think most GMs also realized Halak's value would never be higher, and didn't want to overpay on an RFA they might not sign. I wonder if JD was allowed to talk to Halak or is agent before the deal was made.

He would absolutely have to. JD's not an idiot.

I heard a St Louis reporter on the radio and he said that the Blues were offering Mason 3.25 and he wanted 3.75 and somewhere along the way they were offered Halak who is "supposedly" looking for 4.5 ... no brainer if this is true
