Money is as follows:

Year 1 = 2.5 million.
Year 2 = 3 million.

I'm not one of the resident SportsHoopla math nerds, but I believe that's a cap hit of 2.75 million.

That contract smells fishy. League should review it.

i was fishing up in Bella Coola a couple years ago and one my way home by bro and I stopped in anahim lake where Carey is from. as I was gassing up the truck (not 5 mins after I spoke to the kindest lady I might have ever spoken to) my bro asks how I think Montreal will do with Price. I didnt even think

"Price will choke when it matters most and will most likely crumble under the pressure of Montreal, guy will just flat out fail there"

I know harsh... its what I thought. well I didnt think. I looked up to see the ANGRIEST nice lady I have ever seen, 3 truck drivers and a local glaring at me with death in their eyes. I then look around the gas station and its LITTERED with Carey Price paraphernalia. MY brother says pay up get the fuck out of here. we did on the way out we see this MASSIVE sign

I cant prove it but a RCMP vehicle followed us out a little far. my brother thinks it was a escort out :)

the only way he could face more pressure is if his name was Pierre LePrix, from Verdun

I'm glad they were able to commit long term to their franchise goaltender.

The idea that Price needs to get out of Montreal to succeed because of the pressure is one I know was a popular thought on the other board and repeated over and over by some with no real mention of why or sources; but while Price has not always played well I have never read or heard anything to make me think the pressure is getting to him.

If anything I still hear and read how he doesn't seem to care as much as you would like a player to care after a bad game or bad period.

I like the two years, I am far from sold on him so I think its a good chance for the club to see how he does and a good chance for Price to really increase his value.

I'll miss Halak but not too much. If I had to pick one of them to be the goalie for the next two years I'd pick Halak. If I had to pick one to be the goalie for the next 5 I'd pick Price. I still think Halak was kind of a question mark. Of course I could be angry about it all in January. I do like what I hear of Eller.

And I am sorry to see the completely false rumors of Price being on "strike" fall so quickly. They should have at least waited a few days to announce the signing to help some newspapers sell.

for me, it's not a function of Price, it's more a function of Montreal and the choice of him over Halak.

13-20-5 isn't really grabbing the bull by the horns with another competent goalie breathing down their neck. He seemed to have a lot of bad luck with that record, from the games i remember.
0-4 in the playoffs puts the spotlight directly on him though, after there was Conn Smythe talk for Halak.... and they let him walk in favour of Price.

as you mention, he hasn't shown emotion that is perhaps expected from a rabid fanbase. he has always been cool as a cucumber.
that's going to be construed as apathy if things start to go wrong. let's face it, MTL fans by nature are primed to pounce at any scapegoat. for the reasons mentioned above ALL eyes are on Price this year.

Personally I thought Halek would have been the better fit, but management seems to think Price has more potential and is the future. Question is will he ever reach it in Montreal? IMO no I don't think he ever will. To many expectations in a city that expects to much.

The team in front of him lucked out in the playoffs last year. Totally out shot and outworked, but capitalized on the few chances they had. Combined that with insane goaltending and look where they ended up. JMO.

He's young, but he knows the amount of pressure he has on him by now. With the contract and a guaranteed #1 spot it will be even worse. Don't think he will ever be able to handle it. Now if he was on a different team where he could fly under the radar, that would help him immensely confidence wise. Don't see that happening in a top hockey market like Montreal. He makes one mistake and the Habs fans get on him like crazy. The poor kid doesn't stand a chance. lol.

Oh I agree Puck, because of the choice Montreal made going with Price instead of Halak there is a new level of pressure. Some fans will see a team that went to the ECF last season and if they don't start well some will blame Price, some will blame management, and some (most) will blame both.
The 'he needs to leave Montreal to succeed because of the pressure' argument has been around a lot longer than this off season, I have just never heard or read anything to lead me to believe the pressure is a problem to him and I have read that for two seasons on various boards so it has always bemused me.
Price hasn't been great. After a good rookie year hes had a couple of rough seasons. He was the victim of poor goal support last season but that only excuses so much. I have no idea what to expect from him. That's why I am happy with the 2 year deal.

Stylnk, like I posted above I dont know how Price will do, whether he'll be sucessfull in Montreal or anywhere else but I have seen no reason to believe at this point pressure on him will be a factor. Also I slightly disagree about the playoffs. I think the Habs lucked out and were outworked against the Caps, but thought they played a lot better against the Penguins and were the better team over the 7 games.
