Griffin's First Pass At The Browns' Camp Was . . . A Pick

Robert Griffin III takes his first snaps with the Browns

Actually, it was a tipped ball, so maybe it wasn't his fault. But the way it's being reported, it looks like he's the guy who screwed up. The story also details a familiar account of Griffins' performances during near-ideal camp conditions: he's okay with some throws, off with others. While some will seize on on the former, they also have to realize that these aren't game conditions. When the bullets start flying, Griffin starts reverting to those bad throws we've all seen too many times. Then, there's the other stuff like sliding in the pocket straight into a pressure.

Maybe Griffin can experience a renaissance in Cleveland. Art Briles seems to think he can. But somehow, I doubt this. He first has to beat out Josh McCown for the starting gig, which is certainly not sure thing. I wish the best and we'll see how things turn out.

His every movement before and after every snap is gonna be scrutinized. I know some on here hope he crashes and burns but I can't understand the reasoning for that. The guy sold out his body for the benefit of the Skins. I wish him well... Different conference and we play them once every four years. What's it to us if he succeeds. I hope he excels but I do have my doubts. I think he's just not that good of a QB anymore. I blame his injuries on that. He just isn't the same confident player he was coming out of college.

I wish him well, except against us and have moved way the heck on.

Time for local media to do the same, exception being a Skins game against a Griffin led team, which would make sense. Reason it won't happen is that Griffin generates clicks, even tho he's gone, and news is business.

We hope he fails because he wasn't worth what was given up to get him...and a major part of that is on him.

We hope he fails because he isn't on this team. Hell, I hope every player not on this team fails except for a few.

But others do. That's why it's making news. Perhaps it shouldn't be. But the reality is that Griffin is a media magnet.

This really isn't news. The Browns 2016 was over well before they picked up RG III.:L

How can Griffin be responsible for what the Skins gave up to get him. That logic fails me. He may be responsible for his own failures and ultimately the teams failures but even then,,, why hate on him to completely bust. Again, that logic fails me. For the 2012 season alone I have much admiration for the guy. He basically shit his health away for the team that invested so much to get him. Maybe you feel his actions were selfish during the season as well as the playoff game... I believe he just wanted to be the man.... as we all would, and honestly believed he was the best option,,, again, as we all would.

I hated his tweets and quotes ands all that bullshit too but everyone has their own personality. We've all had to grow up at one time.

Hey, Always wanted KC in the game rather than Griffin from 2013 on but I just can't hate on the guy. He's been humiliated enough with his fall from grace. Let him shine in Cleveland.... everyone deserves some glory.

I do wish that players in my conference and especially division fail but not former players who gave us their all.

He is responsible because he led us to believe he had the character to warrant it. He didn't. He also didn't have the work ethic.

I want him to completely bust because he doesn't have the character I thought he did.

I loved him in 2012 but he changed when the adversity hit. He thought he could be something he wasn't and got his coach fired.

Why does he "deserve" the glory? What did he do to "deserve" it? He also did not give his all. If he did, he may have amounted to something.

I understand your points but I guess it's just because I would love to see Cleveland win a football championship ...if it isn't us of course. Griffin now plays for em so I suppose that's the main reason I want him to succeed.

RG3 certainly takes the blame for not performing well on the field and perhaps not working enough to strengthen his QB skills. He also perhaps said a bit too much in press conferences & didn't accept enough of the blame. However - I don't buy this nonsense about him having bad character. The guy did tons of stuff for the community, never had problems with the law, never appears to have even touched alcohol or drugs, got his degree early & kept his mouth shut for all of last year while he had to take a spot on the bench (which could not have been easy).

Yes he needs to learn more as a football player & work better with his teammates (& perhaps he will), but I certainly don't view him as a bad guy or someone who lacks character.

saying he has bad character is probably not fair. Saying he has character flaws that inhibit his ability to bond with teammates and coaches is probably more accurate. He is not a bad guy, as you point out. He suffers from a lack of self awareness and immaturity. Wether he can overcome these flaws is yet to be seen.

Agree. From what I hear this is one of those situations where RG3 grew up kind of socially awkward & probably doesn't relate well with some people. He compounded this by perhaps abusing his new found role & in the process maybe throwing some teammates under the bus. He might have subsequently realized this & it is up to him to show whether he can act differently moving forward. Honestly - I have seen nothing but model behavior over the last year or so (that poster in the locker room issue was overblown BS & another attempt by the WP to stir shit up). Time will tell.

Time to just ignore what happens in Cleveland and simply focus on the Redskins!

Not a Browns fan. Leave the kid alone, I am not rooting for him to fail or succeed. Time to move on.

Not working hard enough is bad character. Do I equate that to criminal activity...no...but it is a character flaw.

I agree with most of what you say except.......selling out his body to benefit the Skins. He plays the only position of the 22 starting positions. Where selling out one's body is seriously discouraged by coaches, team mates and fans for all QBs not named Cam Newton. Rule changes have been implemented to help facilitate and foster that discouragement to its fullest.

Now that's not to say I was against Griffin's style of play. I loved his passing ability, but his running/the threat to run/legs/speed were key to his game. And key to that was his health and the person most responsible for his health was Griffin himself. His first two injuries his rookie year were completely unavoidable, but due to what I believe was arrogance and plain ol' not being smart, at least in those particular situations where he ended up injured. He was or at some point became a hard-head and he showed it after the Minny game.

I'm not rooting for him to fail though and as I have a soft spot for the Browns. I would like to see him and them do well. Even more than that though. I look forward to a time when Griffin picking his nose or throwing an INT, his fault or not, 5 months before the season even staarts doesn't warrant a new thread in the skins forum.
