Ha, nice try sensitive little Montana fan. You just watched your boy get eclipsed.

Montana is in denial.

"Hey what about that Sammy Baugh guy?! And I hear Otto Graham was good too."

It's understandable. It was probably great being called the Greatest of all time.

The QB point I was making was just to point out that may it be slightly easier than in hockey. But with respect to the NFL specifically, that really is no different than eras past, it's just changed to a new position. Today it centers around the QB because of rule changes, but the concept of having a great player or unit being the building block of your team isn't new. The game used to revolve around defense and the running game. You weren't winning in the 70s and 80s with bad defense, just as today you aren't winning without competent QB play. Now though it's difficult to fill a complete team on a consistent basis. After you pay your elite QB, there isn't a ton of extra money to go around. So you either have to perpetually draft well or find undervalued players who an perform above what they're worth as New England does. You just can't find a group that works and keep everyone together for 10 years like you used to.

I honestly think after this Patriot run is over we will see anything like it again for a long time

Free agency and the salary cap generally allows teams to be equal. The key component is the QB, as it has always been, but given that the rest of the talent throughout the league is spread more evenly, AND all the rules have slanted all in favour of the QB, that one position plays a much, much larger role in determining wins and losses....certainly far more than in any other era. Couple that with a great HC, and you're off to the races.

Despite what some want to believe, the Landry/Staubach or Shula/Marino combination are certainly in the same class as Belichick/Brady.......their downfall(s) were that they were in eras where your teams needed to be stacked to have any kind of long term dominating success.

You still need the top 10 head coach to make the rest of the team credible. Even Aaron Rodgers couldn't carry the rest of GB to the Superbowl.

....which is what I said...a top 10 QB and HC. Aaron Rodgers is another great example....the Packers lose him, and they are a 3 or 4 win team. I enjoy it when you guys make my point for me.

Since OP McDumass left out the Buffalo Bills, I'll have to go with the Oakland Raiders

How cow! I ran out of time just writing down the teams that won more than one Superbowl. Forget those distinguished loser types like the Bill and Vikings.

Sounds like you bit off more than you could chew. Next time, leave the poll creating to the professionals!

90's COWBOYS would get my vote
And they would beat any team of this era

In 4 seasons.......1992 through 1995

3 Super Bowl Championships
4 Consecutive NFC Championship game appearances
a total record of 59 wins and 16 losses
post season record.......10 wins and 1 loss

The 90's COWBOYS had the most complete offense in NFL history.
...........power running game, throw short, throw deep, throw over the middle
THE TRIPLETS ,all in the Hall Of Fame........great Oline

and they had a very fast defense..... before it was "IN'

number one defense in the league, in 2 seasons

and the 70s COWBOYS weren't bad either .... 5 Super Bowl appearances in 9 seasons
8 playoff appearances in 9 seasons

Gotta give it to the Pats with 9 appearances and 5 wins. Nobody has more. Then

Pittsburgh
Dallas
Green Bay
Green Bay has won 13 NFL Championships which is more than any other team.

The Packers are the perfect argument against your point. If all teams are more or less average and it was a matter of just having an elite QB they would have won more than once with Rodgers, nevermind being a "dynasty". They won a super bowl with a top 5 defense and lost a few guys that offseason to free agency and they haven't rebuilt it yet, a big reason why they haven't won since

The Packers have been one of the best franchises in the NFL for the past decade basically solely due to Rodgers. As I said, that team would be a 3-4 win team without him, and that's because their coaching leaves something to be desired. That's why again, I said both the QB AND the HC.
