I would recommend reading this about the atrocity of one of the best Broncos to ever play the game still not being in Canton and hardly even being considered.

State Your Case: Steve Atwater

This guy does a great job of really breaking down the resume of Atwater and just the hate that Canton has for true Safeties.

More of a factor is the East/West coast bias in the voting for HOF candidates.

One of my great thrills as a Bronco fan was watching Steve Atwater have his best game in 3 years against the Packers in the Super Bowl - a champion rises to the occasion.

Got to love that the Broncos have been to the 4th most Super Bowls in NFL history yet only have 4 players in the HOF. Heck the Arizona Cardinals have 11 players in the HOF. The Detroit Lions have 13!

Randy Gradishar - maybe even a better case than Atwater.

Randy Gradishar - maybe even a better case than Atwater.

For me the order of Broncos would go

1) Terrell Davis--I know he had a shortened career but he was the best RB in the NFL when he was healthy and even more importantly he did his best work when the games mattered most in the playoffs. He still has a ton of playoff records for RB's even with playing fewer games than the guys trying to break them.

2) Randy Gradishar--The heart and soul of the "Orange Crush." I mean was DPOY, 7 time Pro Bowler, 5 time All-Pro, he had over 500 more tackles than any Urlacher or Singletary in fewer games than either of them, and he played multiple positions and was successful at every single one of them. I mean he was Clay Matthews before there ever was a Clay Matthews.

3) Steve Atwater--I think the article did a good job showing why he should be in.

I have been wondering for years why Atwater isn't in the HOF yet.

Because he played for the Broncos. If he had played for the Bears or Steelers he would have been elected to the Hall years and years ago.

The easiest ticket to the NFL HOF is to play for the 9ers or the Giants.

Bears have the most hall of famers, Packers are second and Steelers are third. Giants are fourth, 49ers come in ninth.

I wish they would take a look at the list of voters they have and realize most of them are based in the North East or California. From the way I understand it they have a voter from every major city that has an NFL team. For Denver Jeff Legwold is our voter. They then have one representative from the Pro Football Writers of America and 13 at-large delegates. Like I said though the 13 at-large are largely based on the East Coast and West . In fact most of them work for ESPN (based in Boston), SportsXchange (based in California), Sports Illustrated (based in New York), and USA Today (I think based in California).

That`s why a lot of players are so appreciative just to get on ballot because it is so hard and biased to actually make it to Canton. As much as I love our guys and think they deserve ticket, there are so many with even better credentials that are still overlooked out there. We are one lucky fan base to have had the success and the amazing players to go along with it all these yrs. I just can`t imagine being a lifelong fan of some teams like Browns,Lions, Rams, etc that have had such a long consistent losing franchise. We are SOOOOOO fortunate for sure. At least we can wear the Bronco colors in public without getting those sad looks and smirks. ;)

All 3 of them should be in. Agreed.

Nice article, CD. Thanks for posting that. (I need to start contributing around here with all the great articles being posted.)

Steve Atwater is my favorite Bronco, along with John Elway. He should be in the HOF, without question. As should TD, Randy Gradishar, Dennis Smith, Karl Mecklenburg, and Rod Smith. The HOF voters need to pull their heads out.

I'd have to put Gradishar 1st, Atwater 2nd, on that list.

You are also forgetting the original Lock Down Corner, Louis Wright.

Oh and if John Lynch gets into the HoF before Atwater, I just may have a hissy fit.
