Here's the question if KC plays all year under the tag without getting the long term deal before the season does he play conservative. Dinks and dunks while his percentage and numbers grow aiming for another 'see look what I did' type of season. Let's be fair.. it's how he played a good part of the season doing just that. Granted it worked and he moved the chains but can you really get to where you want to be by that style of 'playing for a paycheck this year.

All I said was it is easier for Brady to give a hometown discount because wife has a net worth of $360 million. :noidea:

What did I say in my first post on this subject??? KC wanted the tag to buy time to let others set the 2016 market price. It makes perfect sense and is a smart move.

Cousins wanted the tage because under it he makes no less than $21 million over the next two seasons. And that is saying he totally sucks this year and the best he can get in 2017 is a vet minimum backup gig.

Reality is, even if he comes out flat average, he makes $25 million over the next two years.

Any long term deal that doesnt hold a minimum of $30 million in guaranteed money is not worth Kirks time once you consider that if he plays on the tag and DOES do well, then he made $20 million, and his tag price goes up to $25 million next year.

So its worth the risk for him to get some where between $21-45 Million over the next two years.

Brady dinks and dunks far more.

KC also started playing much better when his two biggest threats were healthy and that is when his numbers took off. You are way off base on how he put up the numbers he did.

Look, non-exclusive franchise tagging Cousins was the right move for all parties involved. KC lifted his game up to another level - 23 td's and 3 int's is top 10 material - at the most opportune time for him.

That's to be commended, as is his ability to sit for 3 years in the drama of Shanny and RG3, Danny and RG3, Gruden and RG3, RG2 and RG3 vs the Redskins, etc, without making waves.

KC wanted to get paid, made a smart business decision, and got himself paid. Hats off to him.

Now, to play out the tender for one year... that's risky.

As for "dinking and dunking," I hardly think that's a reason to not bet on KC making tremendous strides last year. For starters, all qb's dink and dunk if they can't find anybody open downfield. Hell, the entire west-coast offense is predicated on dinking and dunking right down the field. For starters, it's high percentage. Secondly, you only need to exploit one matchup to win a game (Gronk vs every MLB in the league, or in our case, Reed vs many MLB's), and thirdly, as long as you have somebody that the defenses respect that can stretch the field, you'll hardly ever be playing against double teams over the middle.

It's why the niners won numerous super bowls essentially running eight yard slants to Jerry Rice.

I think Kirk didnt really have the offense opened up for a while and obviously didnt have DeSean back for a while, so it wasnt necessarily his fault but I think the Brady dink and dunk thing is a little overstated.

Just once I would love to see somebody other than Brady put the team first. I hate Brady but love that he plays for 9 mil/season.

Pretty easy to do when you have already made a ton of money on & off the field & your wife is worth about $300 million. Cousins' situation is completely different.

He has basically made peanuts to date (rightfully so given his draft position). He has every right to negotiate every $$ he can get, and I am pretty sure that his long term deal won't put the team in a bad position salary cap wise.

IMO Cousins is the type of guy who would renegotiate for less after several years once he has a few $$ & the team perhaps needs the sacrifice to get the next level. The Redskins will be fine salary cap wise & don't need to rely on Cousins settling for less to build their team.

Who cares? When you have a limited amount of space to work with in a game and you are quibbling over a million dollars when you rake in at least 17 mil...I have a problem with that. Now, if somebody offers him 20 and we are down at 15...yeah, then you move on.

The NFL cap #s go up by substantial amts every year so this will not be a problem. Also - once the long term deal is established it can be setup in such a manner that the cap hit won't be so bad (Allen is a genius in this area).

The annual # will not hurt the Redskins in terms of building their team. Beyond that as fans we really don't have a rt to criticize players in this area. To us this is a diversion - to them this is their life, and I don't begrudge anyone for making the max amt of money for themselves.

Dinks & dunks? Are we talking about the same guy? Cousins' problems prior to the end of last season were based on him basically having a gunslinger mentality & throwing the ball up for grabs. I would hardly call that conservative. Are you basing your assessment off memory or have you actually watched the video & seen specifically what he did last season?

I don't believe that Cousins (nor most NFL QBs or players) will play in the mode that you suggest especially in a contract year. Quite the opposite. He is looking to impress so he wants to put up good numbers again & above all he wants to win. Also - playing in a defensive type mode as you suggest can get you in a lot of trouble & possibly jeapardize your earning power.

Now if by "dinks & dunks" you mean short passes to Reed, Jackson or Crowder that turn into long gains & possibly TDs then who cares & by all means "dink & dunk" to your hearts content. Also - if you can "dink & dunk" your way to 80 yd TD drives that eat up the clock then great!

First the dink and dunk offense was made famous by Joe Montana and Bill Walsh. As I remember it they called it the West Coast Offense and Cousins was quite successful running it.

If we remember later in the year he went over to the sideline and talked to McVay about taking the shackles off of him. I believe Cousins has somewhat of a gunslinger mentality With continued growth, time in the offense and more familiarity with his teammates I think he will do just fine.

The way QB contracts are going Scot might just want to sign him to a 5 year $100 million dollar deal. Since salaries have never gone down in the NFL I don't see it happening anytime soon. Just ask Joe Flacco.
