A real barn burner in Clevland had the Seahawks losing.

The Rams and Cards are both losing right now. Both to teams they should end up losing to. We can possibly gain half a game on the entire division in our bye week.

Nice when a team can pick up ground on the entire division while having beer and brats on their living room couches

Seattle losing pretty much ended any chance of anyone have a legit shot of catching us so the only thing left is really to play for a first round bye.

And right now the only team I can see competing for us for it is the Saints (under the assumption that Green Bay will lock one up and like #1 seed).

I think so too. I don't want to get ahead of myself cause this is uncharted territory for the entire team and staff, and pretty much entire organization minus a few. But I see no reason we shouldn't get the #2 seed. New Orleans doesn't scare me either. They are a good team, but Brees has been throwing a lot of picks...going back to last year even. They aren't nearly as scary as I thought they would be coming into this season.

I'd be surprised if the 49ers are not the number two seed in the NFC. Their schedule is just too easy.

It sure seems that way and the current W/L record of our remaining opponents seem to confirm what you are saying as well.

The current combined record of the teams on our remaining schedule is *23-37 for a .383 win percentage with only three teams (NYG, PIT & BAL) having winning records.

*Projecting a Baltimore victory tomorrow night against Jacksonville. Is 12-4 possible? That feels insane to even say that.

It's not only possible, its gonna happen as long as they stay reasonably healthy. I'll put it this way, they are going to have to lose a game that they should win to drop to 12 and 4. I think they will lose one that they shouldn't and they'll lose to Pittsburgh and Baltimore and thus finish 12 and 4.

As you and I fondly remember, the first time we went 6-10 as a franchise the following year we went 13-3 and earned a parade! The second time we went 6-10 as a franchise, the following year we went 12-4.

I'll never forget the first one. We started off 1 and 2 and then reeled off 7 straight victories. Only bad thing, as you may remember, it was the Browns and Greg Pruitt who came in to Candlestick and upset the 49ers ending that winning streak. But then the 49ers reeled off 8 more victories in a row culminating in the Super Bowl.

The only bad thing is that if the 49ers don't get to the NFC Championship, they'll get labeled as pretenders for coming out of the NFC West

I dunno, Three, if we go 12-4, it would take a raging idiot to label us a pretender, Ray Ratto, comes to mind.

One thing for sure is we should be 6-1 after next weekend. The Browns only managed 6 points at home on the Seahawks D. What do think they are going to do to us on the road? I'm pretty sure our D is a good bit better than the Seahawks.

Should be, yes - will be, however, is another story. We are creating a lot of trap games with our performance.

You may not be too far off. I don't want to place an unintended curse on the team by saying this, but, Cleveland, Washington, NY Giants, and Arizona are all winnable games. They may very well head into the Harbaugh Bowl on Thanksgiving with a chance to lock up the division.

on paper how can i not agree? the West games are always key but the way these three are playing, we don't even need a steller game? that said, when individual game rolls around, NOT underestimating them.

btw - after watching how Indy is disintegrating, reminds me how vulnerable we are too? it doesn't have to be Alex Smith nor season ending either? but get a couple of keys guys out and big difference.

yep...."trap games".

even when we were in our dynasty years, we always seem to lose games we were favored in? cause while we can win on 'any given Sunday', so can other teams against us.

expect we'll lose a game and it might even be Cleveland or Seattle? but how this team responds a week later is the key?

Exactly, Deep.
