Jason Bay. Loved him in his short stint in Boston. He was an excellent hitter for a while, batting .280/.375/.519 with a 131 OPS+ in his first six full seasons. Hit very well in the little postseason action he saw (.306/.452/.551 with 3 doubles and 3 home runs in 62 PA).

The Pirates got him in the Giles trade, whom they had gotten for Ricardo Rincon. Two pretty good trades for the Pirates.

Scot Shields was a fine reliever. Shields/Donnelly/K-Rod was a good trio. Shields also pitched pretty capably as a starter in 2003 (3.89 ERA, 55/13 K/BB, 1.21 WHIP, 78 IP in 13 starts).

Mike Lowell in his earlier years with the Marlins.

He was awesome in 2007 especially in the postseason, but his defense absolutely cratered after 2008.

That tends to happen when you're 35...

I was talking more along the lines of his '00-'02 campaigns before the Marlins were recognized on the national stage (Bartman anyone?). There weren't any cheapies at Pro Player back then, and Mike produced some respectable power numbers even at the time.

one of the best pitchers of the 90's. 46.4 bWAR from 90-97 and ranks 7th among 90s pitchers in fWAR.
Major League Leaderboards » 1999 » Pitchers » Dashboard | FanGraphs Baseball

Career 121 ERA+ and 54.9 WAR. 30.5 wins above average. I think he's one of the best pitchers not in the Hall.

This thread was fun

John Danks had a really nice stretch from 2008-10 (3.61 ERA, 125 ERA+, 16.7 WAR) before turning into a mediocre pitcher

I didn't read all the pages, but I'll throw out some players who I feel are underappreciated

Ross Barnes - One of the first super stars in baseball.

Gavvy Cravath - Led NL in home runs 6 times in 7 years in his 30s, just before Babe Ruth changed the definition of Home Run.

Eric Davis - his 86 & 87 seasons are extremely underrated (combined for 64 HRs and 130 SB)

Wilbur Wood - Knuckleballer who had successful seasons both as a starter and a reliever

Charlie Hough - Another knuckleballer, just consistent for most of his 25 year career.

Bill Bergen - Could make an argument that he's one of the best defensive catchers ever, but completely inept with a bat.

Now, as a Mariner's fan, I'll add a few of those here (even if they aren't on anyone else's list):

Jay Buhner
Alvin Davis
Mark Langston
Erik Hansen
Danny Tartabull
Mike Schooler
Brian Holman
Jaime Moyer
Dan Wilson
Kazahiro Sasaki

He never played for Seattle, but he was a latre round draft choice of the Mariners...somewhere in the 30th-35th round, who would have
made you a prtty good ballplayer...Charlie Ward.
