As I said it would
I was incensed when the name change happened that Dan and his crew were trying to sell jersey's of former players with Commanders on it. Riggins was pissed and told them not to use his name.

As much as I like Josh Harris he was trying to do the same thing, something I will never forgive him for. Things like selling Darrell Green shirts after removing the Redskin name. It was very clear fans were against the name change and we hoped he would change it to something closer to our old name. I am glad our football team is better but I will not forgive him for continuing this charade.

I always thought fans were too worked up over a name, some even vowed to disown or reduce their fandom over the name change which I always thought was idiotic. I will never stop laughing at them for this.

Anaheim named their team the Mighty Ducks for crying out loud, nobody cared about their stupid name when they won the Stanley Cup. As they continue to win the name becomes more and more acceptable to me, it's no longer associated with Snyder it's associated with the man most responsiblle for this turnaround and that would be Jayden Daniels. Fans across the country see our fans in Commanders gear and strike up a conversation or give them a thumbs up. We are now a popular team nationwide, neutral fans want to see us and root for us to win. And the stupid name don't mean a damned thing to them.

But I do hope they change it at some point.

I hope they change it too and go back to the championship uniforms at some point. I've been saying, if this team goes on a run, don't hold your breath.

I completely understand those that really want Redskins back. Especially long time fans from the 50', 60's and 70's. I started rooting for this team in 82 and it's been an adjustment for me.

That said, I've been trying to purchase an authentic black Jayden jersey for months, and every time they become available on fanatics or nflshop they sell out within hours.

I agree with your point DGF, Jayden is a Commander. I am starting to see the old logo being used by the team though.

On the official Commanders youtube channel they did a movie style production of the WC game and showed the Redskins logo on a huge flag that one of the fans had. Those videos are carefully edited. They wanted that logo in the video.

The Doug Williams legacy memorabilia has the logo. We will not get Redskins. Maybe, maybe they allow us to use the logo and SB unis as a throwback a few weeks a year.

I'm interested to see how this plays out.

Agree with everythng you said. To see Darrell Green referred to as a Washington Commander or Chris Cooley as a "former member of the Washington Football Team" makes me gag. But a name that desribes a group of people by the color of their skin ain't coming back and it shouldn't come back. But to pretend the Washington Redskins never existed is just so wrong, glad they are bringing the logo back.

But man it's just a name. People need to stop being so butt hurt and support the team as they always have regardless of the name.

I think you can support the team and still voice your displeasure with the name. All of us on this board are diehards. We spend countless days blogging about them. Darrell Green is very outspoken about the old name. He uses it all the time.

I get that some see it as a slur. Honestly, it probably is. I just associate it with my team and my childhood memories. I used to sit in class and draw the logo on my binder in middle school.

The NFL will never allow it, so I've kinda of moved on to hoping we get a uniform change and maybe Warriors or our original name, Braves.

If I had to bet money right now, I'd say Commanders is here to stay.

It’s only a slur if it’s intended to be a slur. I use the name because I’m proud of my franchise and the mascot and proud to be associated with the Redskins. If that’s a slur, then I’m guilty. But, the name is not coming back. Hopefully the logo makes it back.

Somewhat agree. I use it and I don't have a racist bone in my body. That said, it's kind of how people who aren't AA use the N word or some use the Confederate flag as a symbol of heritage and history, while other associate it with oppression, slavery, and lynchings.

Well, that's about all the political talk you're going to get out of me. Lol. We're 60 minutes of good football away of playing for the right to go to the freakin Superbowl.

I completely understand your stance though Jy.

I wasn't getting into if Redskins is a slur or not. My main point is it's just a name and people are getting too worked up over it all. If they win the name won't matter. Just ask the Anaheim Mighty Ducks or the Tennesee Titans or any other team with a stupid name. Once it's around for a while nobody notices and nobody cares all that much, especially when you win.

I mean is the Cleveland Guardians a good name? Do you hear fans crying about it?

I agree. If this team wins is all under the name Commanders. That name is here to stay and 90% of the fanbase will be okay with it.

I think that it is now linked with Jayden Daniels, the most exciting young player in the league, it has become a lot more acceptable.

Just imagine if teams like the Cowboys, Steelers or God forbid the Chiefs had to change their name. There is the significance. Should have never been changed and Danny Dimes is the culprit.

The name Commanders was a terrible choice, and is a terrible name. “Take command,” is cringe worthy. Hail to the Commanders is insulting. It’s lazy too.

I personally cant stand the name. I’ll never buy Commanders gear because I hate the name so much, which is a shame because this season has been an absolute joy, and for the first time in a long time I would be psyched to rock a washington nfl team t shirt in nyc bearing jayden daniels’ name.

But not the fucking Commanders.

I’ll just wait until they ok the old logo back before considering any washington football team swag purchase.

I cant see time helping with “Commanders” name acceptance either. The last regime fucked that up so royally, that I cant see many older fans - fans who knew the Fun Bunch, or saw Riggins Miami run, etc - accept it.

And why would they or should they? This is a fanbase that is as stubborn and loyal as they come. Out cheering a four time division winner in their home stadium in our first playoff game under a new regime is proof positive as to how loyal and true our fanbase is. Those older fans arent going to buy shit with the commanders logo on it, and arent ever going to stop calling them the redskins, or singing hail to the redskins no matter how many years pass.

And I am here for that!

Hail to the motherfucking REDSKINS!

Just my .02.

I will never be a fan of the expansion team...Commies. They have over taken the Cowboys as my most hated team. I have always identified with the Name Redskins, with Pride. I couldn't care less about the City of Washington DC or their Commies team.

We all know what's going to happen though because time is still the baddest MFer on planet earth.
No matter what they end up naming this team, the same fate that crushed the protesters when the name was changed from Braves and forgotten about, awaits the current protesters of the former name.

To quote a very famous line from a movie about human futility... "How about a nice game of chess?"
