Experimenting with gripping the golf club to get a little more club head speed. I've been trying to grip with only the last three fingers of the lead hand and the middle two fingers on the trail hand.

My contact is actually worse as is my distance.

I seem to have better contact and length when also applying some pressure with my forefingers and thumbs.

I was either doing it wrong or I just need to do what's best for my swing and ignore the experts.

I thought they were the same thing. I do the Vardon, the interlocking grip used to hurt my knuckle.

I don't feel like I can get a good grip without the Vardon. Yeah, I guess I meant interlock.

You only have 6 fingers on the club with the interlock. You have 7 with the Vardon.

My lastest hot tip that's helping me is to start the downswing by pulling the grip straight down instead of throwing the clubhead out away from myself.

ok... so...
I guess I've been interlocking my whole life... video saying I've been doing it wrong and should try simple pinky overlap instead... but to also set the shaft/grip inside the second knuckle instead of the palm knuckle... seemed strange until first swing.
Took my PW, 7i and a couple of rangers to my practice field today... I got more distance AND more loft... and far more satisfying strikes.

dammit...

such a simple little tweak... such a noticeable improvement

thanks @fknhippie and @NEhomer :suds:

Good luck with the switch, but Nicklaus, Tiger & Rory all interlock, so idk about the "doing it wrong" take.

I always found that fascinating. My theory is that 7 fingers on the grip is better than 6.

So glad to hear you like it @H2S. I think that once you get comfortable with the Vardon, you'll feel like you're not gripping it well enough with the interlock.

I go back and forth between vardon and interlocking. I've got small hands (yeah, yeah, laugh it up, chumps) and I feel like I have more control with the lock. But, I grip the shit out of my clubs and usually wind up with a blister on the backside of my left index or middle finger

I had what they call a loose grip when I was young. I found that no matter what my grip it's contact with the ball that matters the most.
The point of contact. Arnold said it best " swing your swing ". Look at Matt Wolf, then Arnold, then Trevino etc, they all have different approaches bu the contact point is all the same.
If you feel confident and play well, who's to tell ya you're wrong.
I hurt my back a long time ago and Boo Weekley showed me how to adjust, my grip remained the same but my posture didn't. Contact

Been doing Vardon grip ever since Jr. High or so. I did try going back to interlock though.. it really made no difference. I still hit the same greens in regulation and then proceeded to 3 putt just as much >.<

mental me posits the overlapping right pinky reminds my left hand to keep a firm grip...
and the "second knuckle cradle" right hand grip is as way strange as it is way comfortable and (seemingly) effective.

@Wazmankg... here's the video... doubt it could help Jack, Tiger or Rory but I'm thinking it's going to really help my game.

earlier I mentioned my "practice field"... lol... is a very nicely maintained township park heavy on barely-used greenspace... pic: looking deep, it's 240yds from the pavement on the left (see the truck?) to the forest on the right... my play area is roughly 200yds X 140yds... the park's lawn service keeps a nice 2" second cut in perfectly straight mowing lines... usually take my 6i > W and chase around 3 rangers in real time... I've been going out there for three years now, have never seen anybody else using the same huge field, for anything. lol... It's all mine!!!

I'll try it at the range to see if nothing else. I can see how not interlocking might allow the for a freer backswing hinge and maybe more clubhead speed. It's been decades since I've tried the overlap. But I was messing with my grip trying to free up my swing last year to squeeze out more distance with some success. It's always a work in progress.

I've been baseball grip my whole life. Recently have started to go overlap on my driver only to keep my right hand quiet.

Everyone's grip is different. Harvey Penick has a great bit on it in his 'Little Red Book" that I am currently reading (and absolutely recommend).

I'll take a pic of the section later.

Mr. Penick's Little Red Book is fast becoming as frequently "re-read" as my tattered dog-eared copy of Catch-22... imo it's high art
