I blame parents. And money. But seriously, it's my generation and those younger than me (and even some in the slightly older generation) that have this weird sense of entitlement. But props to Gill for saying something. He has to find his place, because he's wandering in places he ought not. The only situation I have personally with this sort of thing was in Varsity when some freshman got onto the team...I was a freshman on my Varsity squad, and I started. It was a big deal, but I knew not to open my mouth and be arrogant about it, because I was lucky to be there. My senior year (I was the only senior...so that sucked) we had a few freshman make it, and goodness were they cocky. I had to work VERY hard to keep the egos in check. Made them get equipment, water bottles, sit in the front of the bus, etc. Kids these days.

I know this is hard to believe with the Montreal press but everything I have read this story seems to be exaggeration almost to the point of fabrication.
Here is another reporter's account of the "incident":

CTV Montreal - Daily Hab-it: Don't blame players for being guarded - CTV News

Here is a TSN piece on Subban with a focus on the relationship with Gill in which the interviews were done within minutes of the 'incident'. Wow what tension!

TSN-Subban

Plus from today's Gazette there is a full article about their relationship and and snippet:

P.K.'s family dinner: Defenceman P.K. Subban said he went out to dinner recently with defence partner Hal Gill and Gill's two daughters.

"It wasn't planned," Subban said. "I happened to show up at the same restaurant and he said: 'Come on and eat with us.' I got to play with his two daughters. It felt weird. I'm sure he felt like he was babysitting for all three of us."

It sounds like Gill was goofing with PK and a journalist wrote it all down as serious.

BTW I posted those links, not because I looked for them to disprove anything. People will think what they want anyway but I had just finished reading and watching my Habs news for the day so I had the links handy.

Whats his place and where is he wandering that he ought not to?
And did you say the same thing when Crosby was a rookie in the league and spent so much time complaining to the refs that some older players around the league commented on it? Or were they full of shit in that case?

Everyone should be respectful of their teammates and other players - period, I do not think there should be separate codes of conducts depending on how long a player has been in the league.

It appears that things were taken out of context, and comeds links back that premise. Although I want to hear from Darren Pang...Darren, did Hal Gill do the white thing?

who wrote the original story?

Someone named Jean-Philippe Bertrand, at a quick glance it looks like his story was translated by Canoe. But my French is close to non-existent. Habsinsideout referred to Bertrand as a scab Journal writer. I do not know if that's true and he is doing a job he isn't used to, or if they are just putting him down.

BTW in the TSN clip there is a clip of Subban getting patted on the back by Price as he skates by after Subban stopped a puck from going in the net. I was impressed when I watched it live how Price could keep his eye on the puck and follow the play and do that.

I guess, unlike me, most athletes can walk and chew gum at the same time.

The first thing I thought when I saw the headline and gist of this story was "media exaggeration". The Montreal media loves to blow things out of proportion when it comes to the Habs, and a player like PK makes it even more juicy.

I suppose I took too much value into the article and assumed him to be like the little shits that I've dealt with in the past...arrogant and unwilling to listen. From that story I thought he was disrespecting his teammates and the staff, and that's where I find issue. I don't think it's as much different codes of conduct from player to player based on time put in, but just that rookies have a bit more to prove overall. You gotta earn the respect.
