Per Bob Fitz on KNBR today:

Giants gross $354MM per year
Org cost is $75MM
Stadium debt is $20MM

That leaves $260MM of which $130MM is ML payroll.

Can anyone confirm/refute these numbers?

Because, if true, that seems like a LOT of profit taking.

Forbes does a good job with this stuff

The Business Of Baseball - Full List

According to them, it's $230 mil revenue for $8.8 mil profit

Debt level they list as 16% of team value of $643 mil, or $103 mil total debt

Seems high, but I've not bothered to try to estimate the amount of money the Giants make from their comcast partnership - too much guesswork involved for me.

However, if the Dodgers can sell for 2+ billion, and that price is in any way justified by current NPV calculations on future cash flows, then Fitz's numbers aren't way beyond believable. The clearest signal of their believably will be seeing payroll steadily climb as the players union gains more visibility on RSN derived revenues. Which, BTW, seems to be well underway, as a 130M payroll is higher than can be justified from the World Series Championship windfall alone - based on the pre-world series payroll of ~93M.

I love having this discussion, but...

Fitz was bitching about going with Craw and not having a bu option. Who would he have preferred we get? Reyes? He is a stud today, but tomorrow he will be Zito.

He also bitched about not signing Beltran. While many of us would have loved to have had him here on that contract (2/25), who says HE wanted to be here on that contract? No hitters WANT to come to AT@T without getting WAY over-paid.

Spending money for sheer sake of spending money is a HORRIBLE idea. The internal options we had were about as good as the realistic options that were available at the time, for a fraction of the money.

They were still able to dumpster dive Arias and Blanco.

I do not think the Giants deserve any flak for this past off season. There simply were no great fits out there that they lost out on because they were too tight.

The hardest thing to believe here is that any of you listen to Fitz.

Not bad for your 1000th post, Cam.

Shows you how much I pay attention. The first time I read that, I said, "
