Just read that the Giants declined the 6.5 mill option on Vogelsong for 2014. They are negotiating though and might come to an agreement based on innings pitched and other options.

Would like to see him back in the fold. I hope he can get his velocity back to a higher level than it was at the end of the season.

:hope:

I hope so as well. Vogey is one of my favorite Giants in recent memory. Exemplifies everything that went right for this team in 2012: focus, intensity, underdog, talent.

I'd like to think he has something left in the tank to at least battle for a 5th starter spot.

Looks like the talks have stopped and Vogelsong is now on the market. Kind of surprising they could not get anything done.

Either the Giants went too cheap or Vogelsong thinks he's worth more. No matter how bad he was last year, the two earlier years are going to get him AT LEAST a $5M contract (heck, if Correia can get $5M/yr ...)

Considering what the Giants just gave Huddy, I'm guessing Vogey believes in his worth is more then the Giants do.

I heard on KNBR today that Sabean is talking with Vogelsong again. Sounds like Sabean is wheeling and dealing all over the place. Kicking a lot of tires right now.

Latest word on Vogelsong is that the Giants are close to a 1 yr deal worth 3 mill plus incentives that can push it to just above 6 mill if all the incentives are met.

And reports are the guaranteed portion is worth about $5M, and he can earn over $7M with incentives.

Will be interested to see how he needs to earn the extra 1.5M.

So we bought out the final option, plus 5M and potentially more. We should have just picked up his option haha

Technically, we now have 41 on the 40-man roster (assuming the 5 non-tender candidates count towards the 40). There will need to be a trade or a DFA before the Vogey signing becomes completely official.

Vogey passed his physical today so it's official.

He was on CSN today and said he was hurt a little the way this off season contract situation was handled. He said he has a chip on his shoulder and is ready to go to prove to everyone he is worth the contract.

Good to see the General in mid season form. Welcome back Vogey.

If he were truly upset at how it went down, he would have gone elsewhere and tried to stick it to the Giants. Instead, he found there was no market for him at the option price, so he resigned at 1.5M less (probably a good mil or so more than anyone else was offering).

He has done good for us, and all said, I am glad he is back, but get off your f'ing high-horse dude. You were a complete liability last year and you STILL get to take 5+M for playing a game for a year.
