They were going crazy about this on the radio today. Relax. It won’t happen in critical spots once everyone gets the feel for it. The rule doesn’t exist in order for auto-balls or auto-strikes to called. They exist so the auto-balls and auto-strikes WONT be called.

There should definitely not be any of this in the postseason (which, to their credit, they aren't doing), this is a regular season problem only.

They aren't doing it for the postseason now, but a couple of years ago, Manfred said the extra-inning rule will most likely go away.

“I see the extra-inning rule and the seven-inning doubleheader as rules that were adopted based on medical advice to deal with COVID,” Manfred said. “I think they are much less likely to become part of our permanent landscape than some of the other rules that we’ve talked about over time that relate to how the game is being played.”

Every regular season half-inning in extras will automatically start with a runner on second base

The automatic runner placed at second base in extra innings does not count as an earned run for the pitcher. The runner gets credit for a run scored but not a time on base, and thus does not receive a boost to his on-base percentage. The batter who drives in the automatic runner is credited with an RBI.

I think a few years down the road we will look back like this was a good move. But at the current time everyone is not happy. But in the long run everyone will be happy. People just aren’t good with change and this is change and it may take a few years for fans to adapt to this change trust me. I hate change and I’m ok with this rule
