Can someone explain this to me other than ownerships being ridiculously selfish and babying their pitchers?

I have never heard one person say that they like this joke of a rule. It's like the shoot out in hockey.
I like it but not as early as the 10th inning. Have it start in the 12th. Regular season 15 inning games are dumb.

Same thats always been my thought process. Give them 3 real baseball innings to try and win the game. Once the game gets to the 13th then we go to this

I'm even fine with just 2, start in the 12th, but whatever it's not up to us

Bring out a cheap card table, put it at second base and let the pitchers of record play a game of Old Maid to determine a winner.

Either that or just play baseball. With no commercials to give them their bullshit about ending the game earlier.

And make tickets free while you're at it

I heard a new idea that I am OK with…

Start with a runner on 1st in the 11th. A runner on 2nd in the 12th. A runner on 3rd in the 13th and on. And no ghost runners at all in the playoffs.

The NHL has a shootout in the regular season but extra periods in the playoffs. That makes sense to me, and, imho, is a fair compromise.

There should definitely not be any of this in the postseason (which, to their credit, they aren't doing), this is a regular season problem only.

thats an odd way to look at it IMO... extra innings by definition is additional innings because the 2 teams could not decide the winner in regulation...

so if you dont mind the extra innings rule, it shouldnt matter to you when it starts...

the problem with the ghost runner rule is not the ghost runner itself, its that most teams dont care to change the way they play...

But theoretically, i like how it gives the home team a HUGE advantage, and i like how it brings back small ball...

i wouldnt even mind a TD clause like in the NFL, if the first batter hits a 2 run HR then game is over!!!

Has there been any evidence that this actually shortens the games?

That I could live with. But a guy on 2nd in the 10th just bothers me and it isn't just because my team was 5-10 in extras last year.

I just think it's way too gimmicky. It's like not playing OT at all in Hockey and going straight to the shootout.

Yup. Hockey is a team game and the shootout nonsense basically reduces it to only a few players.

Overwhelmingly so, yes. There were FAR fewer games that went past the 12th inning last year.

Its the best rule change in baseball during my lifetime. Instead of these never-ending games that go on and on we have now where every single at bat in extra innings counts. Makes it much more exciting.

Perhaps not but it keeps your attention because very at bat counts.

I'm sure there will be some heads exploding during the season when this new rules change gets enforced regularly...
