20+ years ago that would have been a no-brainer but nowadays they always sell the naming rights and it changes every 5 years or so. I'd settle for something like "The ______ Gordie Howe Arena" or whatever. That way they still get to attach their name and get credit for showing some class to a legend.

Maybe they will sell the naming rights to individual gates and arena sections instead, like they did with Lambeau Field.

Feels to me like selling naming rights on top of Gordie's name would be about as far from honoring the legacy of him and his era of hockey that you could get.

Besides, if Illyitch is naming the arena after anyone, we all know he's naming it after himself.
