I know some people who commute from Los Banos to the Bay Area. It's rough, but it's a place where they can afford housing. I don't envy them.

For pizza by the slice, Pizza My Heart (several locations). I also like High Five or Tony & Alba's. Bars... what kind of place are you looking for? Try the Branham Lounge or The Office.

I texted a friend of mine. He grew up in SJ and is currently a SJ City employee. He is all around town all day. I hope you found a decent place to live that didn't cost an arm and a leg. It was reported today, the average one bedroom apartment in San Francisco is now renting for $3,500 a month, lol
