which is what the Rangers need to start with this off-season. we need at least one heavy-duty front-line starter this off-season

please dont say Greinke.... please dont say Greinke.... please dont say Greinke.... please dont say Greinke....

While Greinkles would be a nice addition to the rotation, I do not believe he would fit the mold of what the bold portion is. (IMO)

Not going to mention any one particular pitcher but Yu and Matt need some support

I agree with this. We dont have to replace hamilton though maybe get someone to fill a 1 or 2 year void. I would like to trade for price or sign grenkie. I hope management looks a lot more into pitching, this offseason.

I'm not going to argue with either of those 2 starters but we do need to replace the good Hamilton we saw with a good power hitter. A trade for CarGo would not be a bad move and we need a catcher.

I agree. Greinke strikes me as a real good AL #2 ... which would be fine if Yu really is a top 3 TORP. But if TEX has to pay #1 for him ... then I'd rather see it spent elsewhere.

The last three World Series winners provide the clue to what it will take to replace the good Hamilton, which was probably 50% of the time. Pitching, solid defense and smarter play in the field and at the plate.

no argument with your points but we need to at least replace 75% of the 40+ homers and 120+ RBI's to keep the offense competitive or no matter how much you improve the starting pitching the team takes a step back.

Yeah well you can still win your division. Try to make a decent replacement atleast. But i rather have great starting pitchers rather than just a decent one like the rangers always have. We never have pitchers where you can say thats a very good rotation that can shut you down.

and i totally agree, our Plan A and Plan B off-season plans should start with upgrading our starting pitching to support Yu and Matt and then we need to address the catching situation and the replacement of Hamilton in the outfield

Not sure where the 75% comes from, but don't forget that Seattle won 116 games the year after Arod left and Texas came close to winning the West after Arod took his .300 avg and 50+ HRs to NY. Losing Hamilton's all to often half ass approach at the plate and his mediocre CF ability shouldn't be the end of the world.

the year after ARod left Seattle, they replaced his 41 homers and 132 RBI's with Bob Boone's 37 homers and 141 RBI's and the year after ARod left Texas we replaced his offensive numbers with Soriano's 28 homers and 91 RBI's. not quite 75% but reasonably close at 70%.

Brett Boone... with steroids... moreso than his actual ability

everyone including ARoid was using steroids at that time so one roider replaced another. Seattle still went out and replaced A-Roid and so should the Rangers in Hamilton's case. you don't just erase 40+ Homers and 120+ RBI's from your roster without making some effort to replace part of their production. and Gentry & Martin are not going to replace a third of it no matter how hard you dream

unless you're planning to pick up a couple of stud starters like Price to go along with Yu and Matt

You have to replace wins. Not home runs and rbi's.

we won 93 with what we had so adding at least 1 frontline starter and someone + a catcher to replace at least part of the offensive numbers should net us 90-95 wins next year.

Nevertheless, Arod wasn't replaced in either situation. The team made adjustments and moved on and both teams did OK. If you look at what Hamilton did then you also have to look at what he didn't do..and that is play good defense and have quality AB's and play smart baseball. I've also read recently that his eccentric behavior became a distraction in the clubhouse so it's not always about HR's and RBI's. Gentry may not be as gifted as Josh, but he's a better CF and he plays the game the way it should be played.

Shouldn't be to hard to replace Napoli's year at the plate and mediocre arm.

so you blow off what Boone and Soriano brought to the Mariners and Rangers as adjustments. you never could accept numbers
