they should make mota the 5th starter and zito the long man.
Zito is simply not a major league pitcher anymore. I dont think I would take him for free. I'd rather have one of the prospects or mota.
Zito hasnt had an era under 4 since 2006 and he hasnt thrown as much as 200 innings since then either. His whip hasnt been below 1.3 since 2005. Simply put, his salary is a sunk cost, and can't be considered when decided whether to play the guy. The giants just need to waive him and eat the salary or at the very least leave him the pen as a long reliever and nothing more.

Yeah, Rowand put up huge numbers there, and with the Giants, eh, not so much.
Still, he's like their 5th best hitter, and his numbers would lead the Giants in those categories.
