Dempster only threw 39 pitches right?

;)

Can't win em all. Like some of you have said, at least Lince didn't get the loss.

I'm surprised (I assumed they'd call someone up):

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said he’s leaning toward starting either Barry Zito or Ryan Vogelsong on short rest Saturday at Detroit. The other option would be calling up a minor leaguer like Ran Runzler, Eric Surkamp or Clayton Tanner to make the start. That’s not looking likely, and Bochy all but ruled out an all-relief “Johnny Wholestaff” game. - Baggs.

Gee, I wonder who anticipated THAT move a couple of days ago....clearly all 99 IQ were working then...today, not so much.

and that's okay - not everyone has the luxury of a filthy slider throwing guy like Romo to go along with the rest of FYWW

it takes a different animal to close games for a playoff contender.

the danger with his stuff is that he is one hanger away from being extremely hittable.

Couldn't we say that about any pitcher though? I know he gives up a couple more homers than Wilson per year, but looking at that pitch GP posted it just looks like Romo got unlucky a bit.

yes, it does sound cliche but it just seems to apply for a guy like Romo. His weapon is the slider. Most days it's on and he is his normal shutdown self. On days/moments where he doesn't have it, he becomes very one dimensional.

As you pointed out, Romo did run into a bit of bad luck and I don't want to make it seem that Romo isn't a valuable member of the bullpen. It is more to the my argument that Romo isn't a Wilson replacement (when the decision comes)

Where do you guys stand on Wilson overall? Presonally I think he's worth throwing a lot of money at, and not just from the performance angle. What other team can market that nutcase like we can?

But I'd hope they limit his big deal to 3 years, even if they have to pay more $. Like 3/$28mil? Am I being naive that would get it done?

Worth it.

Makes the entire team better.

The Giants seemed so vulnerable without him to start the year.

Wilson's proven himself in the biggest of moments and that's where I'd rather put my money. Casual fans point out his eccentric image in the media but by all accounts (common knowledge! lol) he is a character guy - hard working and accountable and deflects all praise towards his teammates.

This.

My favorite alt.

I think something in the vicinity of 3/28 or 4/32 gets it done. I think I'd do it too. Closers are just rare breeds. Just ask Wayne Franklin, Armando Benitez, Matt Herges, Dustin Hermanson, Scott Eyre, Felix Rodriguez, Jim Brower, Jason Christiansen, Tyler Walker, LaTroy Hawkins, Steve Kline and Mike Stanton.

Just sayin' :bounce:

All the playoff caliber Giants teams in my memory had a proven closer. And when Rod Beck was a shadow of himself, they got Roberto Hernandez to solidify that spot.
