We all know Chez is super expendable, any thoughts on whether we could get an actual ML shortstop for him + Crawford + another guy, say Pill?

His stock obviously dropped a ton this year but he has to have some value. Who's out there that we'd want that might be available?

Or is there a decent CF to be had for Chez + Peguero + Pill?

We need to brainstorm some teams desperate for starting pitching, teams that are in the mood to gamble on an inconsistent SP with great stuff.

Edit: Michael Bourn making $4.4 million this year and is arbitration eligible this offseason. In wonder if the Braves see him as a rental.

Yanks? (man, NY fans would eat him alive)

I don't think teams would look so much at Chez' season. Like us, they would be captivated by his potential. A young, fairly cheap, lefty starter with loads of talent. Tempting.

Established CF would be hard to get, I think.

I like the kid in Baltimore, Adam Jones.

Would love to pilfer McCutcheon from the Bucs (no chance in hell)

Crisp seems a logical choice.

Love Span from MN, though he is coming off a concussion.

BJ Upton would be tempting, but too expensive.

Yeah, NY or Bos are no gos for sure. Mets too. Also, who do the Yanks have to deal at CF or SS that we'd want?

So would Baltimore send the newly signed Hardy our way for that package? Maybe sweetened?

Who else is out there we'd want? SS and CF may be super thin right now in the ML, unless you are made of gold bars like THE USUAL hogs.

Crisp is a FA so no need to trade for him. How about SS's?

Man, I wanted Bourn over Beltran in a bad way. Beltran has helped us not at all, and his play in RF has cost us runs, and taken PT away from Nate, until Nate got hurt. I cannot see the Braves NOT re-signing Bourn.

Ross- no (too streaky, too expensive) I don't care of Ross hits 20 homers in September, he has been conspicuously absent for most of 2011. I'm done with him.

If Ross keeps playing like today all September I am really really going to hate him nothing worse than getting hot when it is all over.

Interesting...but he's way to valuable to them, especially if they go deep this year. And they hardly need pitching.

Anyone at CF or SS we could get from Texas? KC?

Grady Sizemore would be intriguing, but he will cost as bunch, he will be 30, and he hasn't played a full season since 2008. Missed 60 games in 2009, 130 games last year, and on pace to miss 100 this year.

Aybar from The Angels would be nice (if they get Reyes, as rumored). Not a spectacular player, but gets it done at short and is good for about 30 steals a year.

Just what I'm starting to think, the CF and SS cupboard is pretty bare. Crisp (free agent) probably the best bet at CF, but there's gotta be SOMEONE who can hit better than Crawford...

Now THAT's thinking. If they do get Reyes he could easily be had for Chez and Crawford. Is he a significant upgrade with the stick from Stamos? I guess anybody is besides who we ran out there. ANd he solves the leadoff problem too.

You got a point with ATL, although Lowe and Hudson only have one year left on their contracts.

First thought- if we can go with Eli and Stewart for most of the season, why no9t go with Stamos to start next year? His defense will outweigh any offensive liabilities he has.

OK, no realism in the following, this is the Santa Claus wish list: I am too tired and lazy to look up the salary structures or whether they are FA's or not.

A younger SS would be Bonifacio from the Fish, only 26 and has improved every year. He has played mostly at short (55 games) but also at 3rd, 2nd, and the OF.

He was in the leadoff spot for the Halos a lot this year but shouldn't have been, given his career low OBP (.314).

But just to compare:

Andrus Aybar

AVG .276 .268

2B 21 27

SB 34 27

OBP .342 .303

Doesn't really solve the leadoff problem I guess. Upgrade at SS but that's an 8 hitter. Torres can deliver a .300 OBP when healthy.

At short, Hanley Ramirez is an all-star, and has been a huge headache for the Fish. Could he be obtained? His lifetime OBP is .380! He has power and can run.

Personally, I think Reyes is a pipe dream. Too fragile, too expensive. Unless we can dump some of BZ's $$$, no way we get Reyes.

Seems like when I was a kid, there were a ton of good/great leadoff guys. Now there are a lot of guys in that spot who should be batting 2nd or 8th.

I'm praying Brown is the real deal.

Hmmm...you'd have to deliver a lot more than Chez + Craw + Pill...probably have to throw in Belt and/or Brown...
