I can't stand Hector. Seriously can we have Arias or someone else DH

The hate is strong in you, young paduan. To the dark side it leads.

I think you posted hating 3 different Giants players in this thread. Just sayin'

And if Arias DHs you'd have to give up the DH when you put him in at third (as I was reminded)

What do you guys think: if Timmy struggles again next year as a starter, do we re-sign him, but only in order to make him a super bullpen weapon? Give him the John Smoltz/Dennis Eckersley career?

Maybe. But I think I'd like to see SabeySabes kick the tires on Anibal this offseason. Dude is a stud.

Exactly, bring in a Fister or a Anibal, move Tim to the pen (especially if Wilson doesn't have anything left)

To be fair he got completely umpjacked on that called 3rd strike. He was very much in the right to be mad at the ump.

So was everybody that night. Giants are up to 2-0, and that's not the time to give a reason for the ump to start squeezing Giants pitchers. He may have the right but it was dumb. All hindsight of course now that they won, but I didn't like that shit at the time.

I don't see Timmeh agreeing to that, even if his struggles continue.

I guarantee Timmeh will be in the rotation next year. He'll get it back together. There's no reason he can't pitch like he did from the pen - he had the same stuff just perfect location.

I suppose you might be right, sure, but he'd be a damned fool then.

I'm predicating the idea on him having trouble again next year as a starter. Obviously if he pitches well he should stay one. But if he has another 5-6 ERA year starting games, and he doesn't even consider the idea, he's an idiot.

Top of the line starters make approx 20M.

Top of the line closers make approx 10M-12M.

I think he would do everything humanly possible to stay in the rotation.

Yes I understand that. And what if he CAN`T EFFECTIVELY START anymore? That's all I'm saying, he stunk it up this year, showed real brilliance as a reliever...if he stinks it up again next year, doesn't that have to impact the thinking?

If he's got a 4.90 ERA next year, and he refuses to consider this move, will he even get top line starter money?

From the Grantland article gp posted:

"But one thing he might've imagined was Lincecum becoming a different pitcher once moved to relief. From Dennis Eckersley to Eric Gagne to even the great Mariano Rivera, we have decades of evidence telling us that pitchers who are merely good (or worse) as starters can become legends in the bullpen. Free to fire his fastball with impunity without sweating the long haul of a 120-pitch start, Lincecum became unhittable during the postseason, and was one of the biggest difference makers the Giants had en route to this improbable title run. In five appearances, he tossed 13 innings, allowed one run on three hits, struck out 17, and walked two. That's Rivera stuff, but with the added degree of difficulty that comes with throwing multiple innings at a time out of the pen. Though Lincecum had only made two relief appearances in his big-league career before this year's playoffs, Bochy kept rolling him out in big spots."

All I'm saying is IF 2013 brings more struggling starts for Tim, he's a fool to not consider this route.
