So Manning came out and complimented his OC Gase with letting the world know that on the 4th and 2 play with us down by 11 and going for it that Gase actually audibled into Manning that he wanted to change the play to the run. I'm hoping this team continues to do much of the same of realizing we got some big ugglies up front that love to hit people. We had 2 plays on offense that I disagreed with yesterday. Both on 3rd and short where the one we did a fade pass to D. Thomas. Those plays work very seldom yet teams do them all the time. Then of course the 3rd and 1 down by the goal line where Manning ended up getting sacked. I will say on the 2nd one though Welker was open so not sure what happened to Manning but looked like he almost tripped over himself and just decided to go down. Anyway still wanting to compliment the offense today for putting together what I would consider the best game I have seen all year from them.

I thought the game plan was great Sunday, and I agree with you about the pass on 3rd and 1, should have been a run.

The other play though I don't have a problem with. If it's the same one I'm thinking of, it was on the Broncos second drive, 3rd and short, Dolphins leading 7-3. Broncos try the fade to DT. DT was singled up in coverage the opportunity was there for a big play, just a poor throw from Manning. Still, I liked taking the shot that early in the game.

I actually just watched that 3rd and 1 near the goal line that so many of us have a problem with and now I am understanding why Manning went with the pass. The Broncos had 6 OL players for blocking on the play where Miami had 9-10 players in the box with 2 of them a bit outside on coverage but within 3 yards of the LOS lined up right where Anderson would have been running. The Dolphins sold out for the run just Manning missed a wide open Welker on the play. So now looking at it I am not as disappointed in the play. It is what we had hoped in the run game making teams have to respect it opening things up for the pass. Just unfortunately we did not execute the play like we needed to.

The biggest problem I have on the fade play is DT had the corner by a good probably 5 inches and strength wise had him beat. I just think a comeback route on that play makes a bit more sense because the Corner is going to error on the side of making sure he doesn't give up the big play. DT has shown he can make one guy miss pretty easy. I think it is just a higher percentage play plus I still think it allows for the big yardage with DT standing at least a 50/50 chance of getting past the corner and having open field to run to with the Safety not really being on that side of the field.

Great points, CD. I did notice that Welker broke open on that third and 1, not sure why Manning hesitated in throwing it.

A comeback probably would have been a better play call on the other one. What I meant when I said that I didn't have a problem with that call was going with a pass when your best receiver is in 1 on 1 coverage. But I definitely see your point.

Yeah I have no problem with the pass call and really I am probably being too critical as connecting on that deep ball really does open up the offense that much more. I just am not as big of a fan of that play as it just doesn't seem to work out as well as teams hope. Especially since Manning did seem to actually throw it out of bounds. If they are going to run the play then to me you have to at least give the receiver a chance to make the play. To me an under throw makes sense on that play since DT did have a step on the Corner and the Corner never seemed to look back for the ball. So again Hindsight is 20/20. Both of those plays it was more the execution than the play call that I have a problem with. Which hey that is going to happen. Can't execute perfect on every play.
