I know it was in a bit in another thread but I think it was worth discussing.

so he will be here for the expiring CBA in 2012. this should be interesting. he has alot of mess to clean up (pho, atl, fla, headshots, etc)

I cant believe he makes over $7M a season. WOW.

It's like he's saying:

He may be fucking up the league in a lot of ways, but lets be clear..... he has done a great job for the owners.

I just read this morning that the Rangers (currently sitting 19th in the league) will be raising ticket prices by 23% next year.
why yes the league does have a hard salary cap, why do you ask?

I think part of the reason the owners love Bettman is that he is the perfect lightning rod, he attracts all the vitriol and derision of fans, media etc. while the owners go about their own incompetent and mismanaging ways.

Do the owners know that they could actually be receiving even more money if they had somebody actually competent in the role as commissioner? Better the devil you know, I guess...

No doubt about that. A number of clubs have seen a pretty significant bump in revenue since the time after the lock-out, and I actually like the fact that the salary cap has been introduced to the league.

Gary's faults still outweigh his positive impact on the game. Whether it be the pathetic broadcasting deal, rising ticket prices and the on-going head-hit issues.
