Game day, the start of a 7 game road trip. Game time is 430pm on FDS. My boys have an Orchestra performance tonight at 6pm so I won't be able to catch this one live much, maybe half the first period so replay later tonight it is.

Not much to report except Kuemper to likely start and Jill sticking with the 11/7 format. Englund and Thomas can check in if he goes the traditional 12/6 road.

Arty Retardy has been assigned to Ontario on a Conditioning Assignment, that's 7 games or 2 weeks maximum. Looks like he's ramping up to get back to the NHL level. Not a fan as you guys know but he has a clean slate to work with this season. He got injured the second day of camp so it's been a while, getting up to game speed and all. If anything it could be a good showcase for a trade.

Isles are coming off two consecutive wins over Carolina and Ottawa, Kings went 1-0-1 against them last season. Sorokin expected to start, I'd like to see Yaknow or Edmundson pummel Lee for that dirty knee hit on Gavrikov last year. Dude ended up scoring two goals in that game after too with no retribution. Hoping they play him a little harder tonight, memories are long.

TA had an article today about how the Kings are the hottest team in the NHL right now with a league leading 5 straight wins, this road trip is going to be tough. The Kings have had an easy schedule so far with time off between games, this will be 7 games in 15 nights. Hone record is good, good opportunity to flex some road muscle. We should have a clear idea of who this team actually is by the end of the trip, I'd be very happy with 10/14 points. Anything 7 or under, not a good trip.

Prediction: Kings 3-1 with goals from Laferriere, Fiala and Foegle.

Lets Go Kings!

You always have great game day threads, It will be embarrassing if edmonson does something to lee, Pathetic really, since he was not even on the team When that happend it would mean.Nobody else was man enough to do it That saw it live.... I remember being pissed that nobody took care of it that next game and let him get two goals.

You would think this game would be a snooze fest the way they both play but I bet it will be more exciting than not 4 - 3 Kings in SO

I just try to give a brief overview of what's going on, a lot of information gets missed. Maybe add some factoids or tidbits in there but generally it's a summary of several sites I've checked out that particular day. Glad you enjoy them though, it's nice when someone fills in if I miss it or can't get to it.

And yeah, it was gross how no one stepped up for Gavrikov and even worse Lee scored two goals after, I think he got the OTGW too. Talk about insult to injury.

I would hope that was one of the events that made Blake get some tougher players, back when I played I would initiated a fight immediately to stick up for my teammate no questions asked. This team needs to develop that mentality again, I still don't see the toughness that was supposedly injected into the lineup.

Just got back home from the kids' performance, perfect timing too since the replay just started. Grabbed some Mexican for us (when da fuq did a carne asada burrito become $18.25 in a drive thru?), going to mow this down and watch the game.

On the TA thread a poster said Burroughs sent a suicide pass to Laferriere and he got blown up, I want to see if there was an appropriate response. I did read Burroughs stood up for him, but I woild expect him too if his pass created that in the first place.

I already know the score and who scored, I want to see how bad Buster floated and how uninspiring Dunno and Moore were this game.

Also funny to see a dude named Tsyplakov again in the league, assuming he's related to good old Vladimir.

I totally forgot I got Centre Ice last week for DTV, it was only $70 for the season. I haven't had it in a few years and last I recall it was way more expensive than that, somewhere around $160 I wamt to say. Not sure if I caught a special or this is the going rate but I'll take it.

Flipping between the Kings replay and Oilers Lightning, need a Bolts win here (2-1 Oilers, 11:56 left).

Looks like Fiala had a good game, goal not withstanding. He's been all over the place, some pretty nifty moves making things happen.

His Fialas can be frustrating but there is no question he is the Kings ' most dynamic player. I just don't think the tining of the trade for him was right.

My guess is Spence is traded. My only concern would be disruption of team chemistry, the Kings are getting a taste of post Doughty life and not doing too bad and he will take some time to get back up to speed.

The way Blake handled Quick, wouldn't it be something if behind the scenes he's been working/starts to work a trade to free up that $11 million cap space?

I dont think he would be able to leave Staples ever again and woild he holed up in a suite the rest of his life.

I did not see this one at all. Kings plugging along. Still not sure they get out of the first round

They're winning but playoff hockey isn't being played. Everything tightens up, the hits ramp up, much more intensity, checking gets even tighter.

The Kings were cruising with 20 wins at this point last season I believe and well...we know how that worked out.

It could be that you got a pro-rated cost being that the season is a third over.

I want to know what the plans are for Gavrikov and Lafferrier. There doesnt seem to be much coming off the books after this season. Even with trading Spence doesnt free up much money. I dont want another Roy debacle where we lose either or both with nothing in return.

Could be but that's still over 50% off. In the past I got it mid-season and it was still more expensive than the $70, but you're probably right.

Another thought is after the Sunday Ticket fiasco with DTV and YTTV I wouldn't be surprised if DTV looks at CI as a loss leader since hockey isn't nearly as popular as football.

Laferriere is gradually making a name for himself and is young, if he is an RFA they'll sign him to a long term deal. If he hits 40-50 points this season I fully believe that'll be a sure shot thing. He is a solid player and pretty consistent, he's shown more growth in one year than Buster has in four. He may not be as skilled or hyped but he delivers. I wouldn't mess around with his contract and in fact would sign him early and fast.

Gavrikov, I don't think he will be traded especially if the Kings are in a PO position come TDL. It's a risk he will walk on July 1 if he isn't signed (he's eligible for an extension on Jan 1), clearly Blake is willing to do that as well saw with Roy. Sean Walker got a 1st in return on his trade last season, Roy was a complete mismanagement of assets by Blake.

But he's shown he is willing to let them go but that would create yet another hole on the roster. Gavrikov's ability and so far success being able to play the right side has upped his value and I don't expect anything less than a $6.5 million AAV contract for him. He's been solid this season after a somewhat down year last season.

Trading Spence clear up $1.5 million which isn't a lot but it also clears a roster spot in a jammed position when Doughty returns. If Blake can get a solid B6 player or a 2nd round pick I'd call that a win.

Do you think a long term contract for Lappy is better than a bridge deal? If so, what are the numbers looking like for that contract? 5-6+ for how long?

He's in the last year of his three year ELC, he will be an RFA without arbitration rights. So he's under Kings control at least through the next contract so they have some leverage there, but I believe they know what they have in him (I compared him to JDub Light, funny thing was TA put out an article not too long ago saying the exact same thing. I can't put my finger on it but Laferriere has that "it" factor and I would not be surprised at all to see him score some big goals throughout his Kings career) and will act accordingly.

This isn't a disgruntled Arty Retardy situation where he took 75 years to sign his bare minimum MQO (probably in an act of voicing his displeasure at his role in the organization but that's on you bub - you have shown nothing significant 5.5 years after being drafted), this is a guy who has already produced a bit, has intangibles and is considered a long term part of the team. Thus I don't see any hardball coming from Bowlby and Co. They'll want to make it a smooth, quick, fair contract because it'll bite them in the ass later if they don't.

In terms of contract, I don't see 6 but do see 3 years (maybe 4) which still leaves him two/three years short of UFA status. My call is 3 years/$13 5 million ($4.5 million AAV) and if he continues his upward trajectory his third contract will be in the $6 million range and longer term covering UFA years.

Kings made a massive mistake on Buster after one fluke year, they won't be doing that again. Or maybe they will because...Bowlby.

I think the nickname Lappy is retired and not available for use ever again by a King. :)
