Game day, 730pm on FanDuel/BSW/FS1. Buffalo has owned LA in Buffalo, and the Kings won the season opener there last month with Kopitar getting the third period hat trick but Kuemper kept them in that game. The Kings just don't play them well for some reason, here's hoping some home cooking will get the win.
Obviously you guys know why I titled this game the way I did, but Thompson will not be in this game. He's missed the last 2 with a UBI so the Buster vs Thompson comparisons won't happen tonight. They shouldn't anyway, Thompson is a better player. They still have Tuch who is a power forward and a menace and I expect him to create problems tonight. Curious if Levi gets the start, he has promise for them as a future starting goalie.
No lineup changes from Saturday, Burroughs, Englund and Thomas set to be scratches with Moverare taking LD3. He's got his limitations but plays a smart brand of defensive hockey. I can't believe how many times they've "assigned" him to Ontario meaning he has to clear Waivers being non exempt and no one has claimed a cheap, dependable SAH defender. The Kings will get burned at some point I'm sure but he is a simple, safe defenseman. Turcotte will not be on a pitch count tonight like he was Saturday (first game back from injury) so he should get plenty of time being LW1. Rittich to start and Portillo backing up with Kuemper on IR.
Kings playing G2 of a three game homestand but the weird thing is that covers 11 days. They have two roadies against Anaheim and SJ coming up but overall will not be leaving CA for a while. They have played the most road games of any team so far because of that 7 game trip to start the season but should get plenty of rest and time back home in LA the next little while. That said, we know how these Buffalo games go most of the time.
Prediction: Kings sweep the season series 2-0 with a 3-2 SO win. Fiala and Lee with the goals, Kempe with the SO winner. Buster prancing around like a baby deer as usual but not getting on the score sheet yet somehow not scratched. Twenty games in bud, that's almost 25% of the season. Get it together - your contract is looking almost as bad as Kovalchuk.
