not the first coach to question Willie Mitchell on an injury

With the Kings trying to avoid a 0-3 start, attention turned to the future availability of veteran defenseman Willie Mitchell. Mitchell had knee surgery during the lockout and is moving along.

Not fast enough, apparently.

"You know what, he's got doctor's clearance," Sutter said Wednesday. "He's got trainers' clearance. Coaches want him to clear himself.

"So do it."

The Dallas Stars have placed forward Derek Roy on injured reserve with a groin injury, clearing a roster spot for the expected debut of Jamie Benn on Monday night at Columbus.

Roy, who was acquired from Buffalo in a trade that sent Steve Ott to the Sabres, was hurt Thursday against Chicago. He has two assists in four games.

Benn and the Stars agreed on a five-year, $26.25 million contract the same night Roy got hurt. Benn, who was a restricted free agent, missed Saturday's loss to St. Louis.

saraorlesky: No Dustin Byfuglien for #nhljets

Not sure what the injury is (could be general body soreness)

sorry if already posted:

post game v Ducks saturday night ... Dutter is getting catty

- On if tonight was the first game the Kings really missed Willie Mitchell and Matt Greene on the penalty kill: “I haven’t seen Willie Mitchell for seven months and we miss Greener’s leadership out there and in the locker room for sure.”

TSNRyanRishaug: Looks like Ryan Whitney a healthy scratch tonight.

File this under "stinks too bad to play"

Edit: Coach agrees: TSNRyanRishaug: Whitney says he’s not happy, but respects coaches decision. Ralph told him he’s not playing good enough.

First Belanger, now Horcoff. Oilers losing veteran leadership down the middle of the ice.

/Taylor Hall is starting to remind me of Mason Raymond, offensive plays are dying on his stick as soon as he crosses the blueline.

Taylor Hall is becoming very, very good at "dramatically falling to one knee at the slightest touch, yet heroically maintaining his balance and puck possession, all while making eye contact with the referee"

Fistric's injury is pretty amusing, too. Potential broken ass by trying a massive hipcheck exactly perpendicular into the boards (as opposed to an angle, which is the proper way to do it) and missing completely. That's gotta hurt.

TSNRyanRishaug: RNH not skating. Was injured first shift in OT. If he doesn’t go, looks like Arcobello gets a shot with Hall and Eberle, Gagner line same

so dash, if Kipper is out (looked like knee strain at the very least - hopefully no damage!), are they going with Leland Irving?

I thought he was basically 3rd on the depth chart in Abbotsford, but the other guys had potential waiver issues to be moved?
