Seems weird to pin the huge regression from 2021 to 2022 on two pitchers. That may illustrate a bigger point but that alone does not seem to be why the team played some much worse the next year. I think we all knew that 2021 was smoke and mirrors. There was no way that the Giants could have reinforced that same team and gotten the same results. But Gausman in the rotation instead of DeSclafani would have made things better.
Posey was the big regression imhumbleo.

I seem to remember that being a discussion on this forum at that time, now that you reminded me that was the year he retired.
Posey retiring and the Brandon’s both smacking head first into the career-wall doomed ‘22.

That and the fact that every single possible break went our way in ‘21.

Price out as Pitching Coach. No word on a replacement.

I thought he did a pretty good job. Not sure why he was identified as a problem.

The Athletic makes it sound like it was Price’s decision
That very well maybe the case. He is a bit older, and was a manager in his past. Maybe he didn’t like something about how the Giants run things (completely pulling this out my ass)? Maybe he wasn’t too interested in a long-term gig, but he was doing a 1-year favor for BoMel?

All total supposition on my part. I know nothing. I don’t even have a working theory at this point.

He wasn't. He insisted on a one year deal b/c he really doesn't want to coach any more. He only did it because of the franchise and BoMel. He left two years on the table in Philly for the same reason.
