Cousins also told NFL Live that he spoke to several members of the organization the following day, including owner Dan Snyder and coach Jay Gruden.

"Coach Gruden called me the next day and communicated that my desire to draw the process out through March was going to make it tough on them," Cousins said. "They couldn't afford to wait so they had to make a move. They wanted to do a deal, but because I wanted to go a little longer it put them in a tough spot. So they made the trade. I understood that. He said, 'I wish you all the best. We had a good run and look forward to seeing you in the future.' "

Washington Post article says the KC camp wouldn’t even sit down at the table until after The tag deadline had passed. Doesn’t seem like he was very interested in hearing what the FO had to say. But then again...after having his name mispronounced...why should he

Later, Cousins told ESPN that the Redskins decided they couldn’t wait until the March 6 deadline to apply the franchise tag on him for an unprecedented third consecutive year, which would have resulted in a one-year deal worth close to $34.5 million. Cousins had made it clear that he and his agent, Mike McCartney, wouldn’t engage in any contract talks until the franchise tag deadline passed.

Can Allen still blame Scot Mccloughan some how? Remember folks that even when you think it can't get worse, realize this year we won't have Scottys draft cheat sheets.

Sounds like he either wanted out, or he wanted the tag deadline to come and go without being tagged so that he at least had the option to talk to other teams.

I would lean towards he just wanted out.

I agree. Which is probably why we decided to just move on instead of trying one last time. If so, that’s a far cry from what KC has claimed publicly. But we will never know.

Scotty Mac isn’t the only person in the world that can scout players. And that sheet may be available for a rather large fee. But sure, we haven’t drafted well... so it can certainly get worse, but it might not.

Scot isn't the only person who can scout talent, but I feel safe in saying Bruce Allen cant. :thumb:

If the Redskins had extended a reasonable offer, as they should have immediately following the season, they may have something. The Redskins proclaim the Cousin’s camp wouldn’t sit down...we are actually believing this organization? Really?

Yep.. you won... an older version of Cousins who actually DOES need a ground game, WRs and a defense just to put up the Numbers Kirk did.

Congrats.

For what we gave to and up for Smith, this team better make the playoffs..... I don't want to hear a single fucking complaint about the defense, injuries or Gruden from the ABC club.

So why not force him to the table? Make him an offer that he SHOULD accept. If he balks, then you move on. And everyone would understand. No, they didn't do that because they didn't really want him.

Numbers Kirk did in an injury riddled off year.

I do find it interesting that Bruce made a point of holding a press conference to try and throw Kirk under the Bus.

You might be onto something in that had they made him the offer they just gave Smith.. they would be fucked if Kirk suddenly went.. OK Deal.

The best way to ensure you are not committed to a deal you didn't really want to make, is to not make an offer at all, or make a ridiculous offer.

That’s fair game. Make him an offer over the phone...he’ll make it publicly (can they do that??), put the ball in court.

And you are right. They probably didn’t want him either. Likely a mutual thing. Kinda like a married couple that just didn’t love each other any more, hung on 10 years too long for the kids sake. As soon as the last one graduated from school they are signing the papers.

As I mentioned in another post. Bruce had no problem last year putting contract offer numbers in public.

So why would he have a problem now if he made Cousins the same offer he made to Smith and Cousins turned it down?

The problem there would be.. what if he made the offer, and Kirk accepted it??

True, But it’s quite obvious KC would not accept that insult of a deal. That lowball would be completely ridiculed...

Right. Kc wouldn't of signed Smiths deal that is why the Skins moves on. The skins weren't going to wait until FA to see what QB they would get. They made a move. They weren't going to wait on KC.
