Shark how can Branch play De in a 3-4 if he is only 255 pounds?

He would need to put on a few pounds. But I get the feeling we are going to be a bit more pass rush dedicated and I also think we are going more for a hybrid front going forward.

Actually its more about the fact that we actually need more like SIX pass rushers at this point. And we currently have three.

6? how do you explain that. 3-4 De are rarely pass rushers. If Murphy was a good pass rusher we wont be looking at pass rusher or be at Noah Spence's pro day.

So wait, you think we only need 3 DEs in a 3-4 base and that will make it through the season?? I realize you have a thing against Murphy because the pick could have cost us a shot at drafting the Red Sea Moses. But come on dude, the reality is, even with Murphy AND assuming we resign Gallette, we still need more pass rushers. And getting them now means we might actually be able to address the secondary in the draft.

No. I think we need four DE for a solid rotation. It looks like we are going to add a OLB that will jump ahead of Murphy on the depth chart. Whether is Galette, Branch or a draft pick. It still puts Murphy as the 4th OLB on the defense and I believe we only carry 4 OLB's on the roster. Its just like I said Murphy is just a backup and special teams guy. And you and gk would take a 3rd rounder for Murphy. LMFAO

But here's one stat that the NFL Network's Albert Breer tweeted out: Of the 86 players selected to the Pro Bowl, only two were free-agent signees last offseason.

I will give you 5OLB's but not six. Shark if we added a FA OLB plus we draft an OLB(Specnce or Floyd) doesn't that look bad on Murphy a former 2nd round pick? Like I said, most teams carry five, some as many as six. Going with only four to start the season would be dumb. And the reality is, we actually need more help on the D-line and secondary period.

I have stated numerous times that I think PS is the better player. I have also stated Murphy is only going into year three and is worth more than a third round pick. I even went as far as to show you how Murphy is already far more valuable than a third round pick.

i wish some people actually "listened " instead of hearing

murphy has done well by us . and i suspect he will get snaps on the d/line as well . murp doesnt cost much and is good depth at worst . he has started 24 of 36 games

More of what Smith appears to be more successful at, along with guys like Long, Branch etc. We need pass rushers, period! It also appears our top priority in the draft whether its a 1st rounder or 2nd rounder with be DL. I'm hoping SM can move down a few spots and pick up extra picks with such a talented DL draft as we have seen in years. We need 10 more draft picks this year in an effort that we HIT on 5 of those picks. Last year we did well for ourselves with Smith, Crowder and Jarrett.

Looks like we are going to go for alot of one year rental options while Contractor Scot continues to rebuild the foundation through the draft.

I think this is what is really going on.

Fine by me. Keep the team competitive while we build through the draft and once we have a good young team think about splurging on a FA or 2 if we have the cap space.

The youth nucleus of: Kirk, Jones, Crowder, Reed, Trent, Scherff, Moses on offense. And Kerrigan, Breeland, Preston, Baker, Compton, Foster, Dunbar on defense is solid.

Adding another layer this offseason via the draft, UDFA, and FA of 7 to 10 players is the way to go. DT, DE, S, C, G, TE, WR, RB all being priorities. The beauty is the cost of each of these players is 1-2 year show me deals at league minimum or cheap rookie contracts. Building brick by brick. Scot is the Warren Buffet of NFL GMs.
